All <br />read and approved. <br />February 15, 1960 <br />of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, February 15, 1960 <br />members were present. Minutes of the previous regular meeting were <br />Comes now Chief Alex Andrzejewski, President of the Firemen's Pension Fund, and submits <br />to the Board the conformable decision of the Board of Trustees to fix conclusively the <br />granting of a monthly disability pension of $242.36 or fifty-five percent of a fully paid <br />first class fireman's salary to Christian J. Meiner and Bert F. Nowinski respectfully. This <br />action has been governed by the provisions of the pension fund, and upon the recommendation <br />of Dr. R. W. Spenner, medical examiner, whose physical findings were to the effect that the <br />physical incapacitation of the above named firemen would forestall them from performing the <br />vigorous duties incident to the fire service. The granting of this monthly allotment is <br />pursuant to law made and provided for the disability retirement phase of the pension fund <br />and shall become effective March 11 1960. Request granted. <br />Further the Chief requests permission of the Honorable Board to send Bn. Chief Lederer to <br />Lafayette, Indiana to attend a one -day Planning Session on the Rescue Training Course on <br />Tuesday, February 16, 1960. Request granted. <br />Appearing now is Detective Sgt. Fremont F. Lemler and submits to the Board his request for <br />his resignation from the South Bend Police Department after completing twenty years of ser- <br />vice to become effective the 1st day of March, 1960. Request granted. <br />Comes now Asst. Chief Richard Burkhart of the South Bend Police Department and submits to <br />the Board the request of Officer Leroy C. Barritt for an extended leave of absence from hi <br />present duties with the Police Department. His original leave was from January 15, 1960 t <br />February 15, 1960. The leave now requested will be from February 16, 1960 to March 16, <br />1960. Officer Barritt further states that he understands that he will draw no compensation <br />from the department during the time of this leave. Request granted. <br />A petition is hereby submitted to the Board from Mrs. Ben Bilinski, 746 S. Falcon Street <br />and several others asking for the improvement of the middle of Falcon Street between Dun- <br />ham and Ford by the construction of street lighting. Petition referred to the City Elec- <br />trical Department. <br />The Board hereby approves the appointment of John Fezy and John Sniadecki to the South Bend <br />Fire Department. Said applicants have passed all required written examinations and the phy- <br />sical examination by the _City Doctor and further having been accepted for membership in the <br />Pension Fund of the respective department, their appointments will become effective the 16th <br />day of-Eebruary, 1960. <br />The bid for the South Bend Police Department Base Station is hereby awarded to the Motorola <br />'C. & E. Corporation as follow!: <br />Item 1 - 1 each 60 Watt Base Station <br />Item 2 - 1 each Remote Control Unit <br />Item 3 - 1 each Tone Alert Device <br />All above items meet or exceed specifications of <br />the City of South Bend, Indiana <br />Total bid price - $1,550.00 <br />The above bid was awarded based upon the fact that the General Electric Company, the only <br />other bidder, did not meet with specifications. <br />There being no further business to come before the Board the meeting I <br />called adjourned <br />at 10:45 A.M. <br />
