l90 There being no further business to come before the Board,;the meeting was called adjourned at 10:40 A.M. Attest: Anthony J Sabo., Clerk A regular meeting at 10:00 A.M. All read and approved. February 15, 1960 of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, February 15, 1960 members were present. Minutes of the previous regular meeting were Comes now Chief Alex Andrzejewski, President of the Firemen's Pension Fund, and submits to the Board the conformable decision of the Board of Trustees to fix conclusively the granting of a monthly disability pension of $242.36 or fifty-five percent of a fully paid first class fireman's salary to Christian J. Meiner and Bert F. Nowinski respectfully. This action has been governed by the provisions of the pension fund, and upon the recommendation of Dr. R. W. Spenner, medical examiner, whose physical findings were to the effect that the physical incapacitation of the above named firemen would forestall them from performing the vigorous duties incident to the fire service. The granting of this monthly allotment is pursuant to law made and provided for the disability retirement phase of the pension fund and shall become effective March 11 1960. Request granted. Further the Chief requests permission of the Honorable Board to send Bn. Chief Lederer to Lafayette, Indiana to attend a one -day Planning Session on the Rescue Training Course on Tuesday, February 16, 1960. Request granted. Appearing now is Detective Sgt. Fremont F. Lemler and submits to the Board his request for his resignation from the South Bend Police Department after completing twenty years of ser- vice to become effective the 1st day of March, 1960. Request granted. Comes now Asst. Chief Richard Burkhart of the South Bend Police Department and submits to the Board the request of Officer Leroy C. Barritt for an extended leave of absence from hi present duties with the Police Department. His original leave was from January 15, 1960 t February 15, 1960. The leave now requested will be from February 16, 1960 to March 16, 1960. Officer Barritt further states that he understands that he will draw no compensation from the department during the time of this leave. Request granted. A petition is hereby submitted to the Board from Mrs. Ben Bilinski, 746 S. Falcon Street and several others asking for the improvement of the middle of Falcon Street between Dun- ham and Ford by the construction of street lighting. Petition referred to the City Elec- trical Department. The Board hereby approves the appointment of John Fezy and John Sniadecki to the South Bend Fire Department. Said applicants have passed all required written examinations and the phy- sical examination by the _City Doctor and further having been accepted for membership in the Pension Fund of the respective department, their appointments will become effective the 16th day of-Eebruary, 1960. The bid for the South Bend Police Department Base Station is hereby awarded to the Motorola 'C. & E. Corporation as follow!: Item 1 - 1 each 60 Watt Base Station Item 2 - 1 each Remote Control Unit Item 3 - 1 each Tone Alert Device All above items meet or exceed specifications of the City of South Bend, Indiana Total bid price - $1,550.00 The above bid was awarded based upon the fact that the General Electric Company, the only other bidder, did not meet with specifications.
