March 23, 1959 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, March 23, <br />1959 at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of the previous regular <br />meeting were read and approved.. Vascil, and Special <br />Police application approved for Michael Graney. <br />Applications for the Police Auxiliary School Patrol were accepted and placed on <br />file for Gladys Manuszak. <br />The monthly report of the Police Department is hereby accepted and placed on file <br />for the month of February, 1959. <br />The Board hereby approves the following By -Law which was adopted by the Firemen's <br />Pension Fund Board and effective on the 17th day of March, 1959; By -Law: "It <br />shall be the duty of the Pension Fund Medical Examiner to instruct future appli- <br />cants to the Firemen's Pension Fund to undergo further psychiatric examination <br />whenever abnormal mental reaction is found in the examination of the applicant." <br />A petition is hereby submitted to the Board by Mr. John E. Trytko, Jr., 4920 <br />Bloomfield Place and several others asking for the improvement of Sample Street <br />from Wellington Street to Illinois Street by the construction of street lighting. <br />Petition referred to the City Electrical Department for recommendation and investi- <br />gation. <br />The bids for the Fire Department were awarded to Newman Altman Company as follows: <br />Newman Altman Company <br />One(1) 6 cyl. 2-door 1959 Lark Station Wagon --- $2,312.84 <br />Hewman AltmanL Company <br />One (1) Regal Deluxe 59V-D6 2 door Station Wagon==$2,598.91 <br />The time now being after 10:00 A.M. it was so announced and the bids for the <br />Police Department were opened and read aloud. Proofs of publication in the <br />South Bend Tribune with.an affidavit signed by Robert DeLong and in the Ht cord <br />with an affidavit signed by W. DeCanio were submitted to the Board and found <br />sufficient. The bids received. read as follows: <br />Freeman Spicer Company A non -collusion affidavit and a <br />520 S. Lafayette Blvd. certified check in the amount of <br />South Bend, Indiana $970.00 accompanied the bid. <br />Three (3) 1959 VW4 Studebaker Lark 4-door sedans V-8 engines <br />Two (2) 1959 VW4 Studebaker Lark 4-door sedans V-8 engines <br />One (1) 1959 VW6 Studebaker Regal Deluxe 4-door sedan V-8 <br />Total for six (6) units <br />---------$9,368.82 <br />
