February 24, 1959 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Tuesday, February 24, <br />1959 at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of the previous regular <br />meeting were read and approved. Claims in the total amount of $5085.61 were <br />approved and orddred paid to the following suppliers: <br />American Dist. H..Huguenard. Said appearance is based upon <br />appeal of Dennistons reference to condemnation order. Hearing had on evidence of <br />Building Commissioner and also by evidence of the Denniston's and Attorney, A. H. <br />Huguenard. The appeal is now denied and the condemnation order is modified in the <br />following particulars: <br />1. Said owners will be given three (3) weeks which is until <br />March 16, 1959 to remove certain property from the real <br />estate, and <br />2. That only tenants, owners, or agent shall be permitted <br />to enter onto premises to remove property. Further, any <br />and all injuries will be the responsibility of those going <br />on premises. <br />Comes now Mrs. Maude Chapman, 1007 E. Sample Street and her:Contractor Earl Maden <br />reference to condemnation order issued by Building Department on structure located <br />at 1009 E. Sample known as the River Cafe and submits evidence that the structure <br />can be rebuilt to conform to the Building Code requirements and requests permission <br />to do so. The Board hereby agrees, after examining evidence, that said request will <br />be granted and further that Plans and Specifications be pubmitted first to the Bldg. <br />Commissioner for 1:his approval. Also, it is understood that a period of 60 days will <br />be given to complete this project. <br />Verner Lane, Building Commissioner, comes now and informs the Board that several <br />buildings located at 916-918 E. Sample Street and owned by the City of South Bend are <br />in very poor condition and the Building Department is going to proceed to take action <br />for demolition of these buildings. The Board hereby directs lit. Lane to issue said <br />said order Unediately. <br />
