1 <br />tC1 <br />F1 <br />South Bend Police Department and at said time and place acting in <br />a loud, -boisterous and disorderly manner so as to distuizb the'op- <br />erations of said police department by his tumultuous, offensive, be- <br />lligerent and undignified behavior; that the said Jaohn A. Haney was <br />not on duty at said time and that further said acts were contrary to <br />Regulation 9 of the Rules and Regulations of the Police Department of <br />the City of South Bend adopted January, 1956. <br />By: IRVING J. SMITH, PRESIDENT <br />Board of PublicSafety <br />Dated January 15, 1959 <br />Comes now John A. Haney at this time and admits that he received the Notice of <br />the hearing to be held before the Board of Public Safety this 19th day of January, <br />1959 on his violation of Regulation 9 of the Rules and Regulations of the Police <br />Department of the City of South Bend as served personnaly to him by Officer Cor- <br />nelius Nicholas of the South Bend Police Department. <br />Chairman Smith now reads the charges as filed against said Haney and also the <br />section on Regulation 9 of the Rules and Regulations of the Police Departmentof <br />the City of South Bend. Said Haney admits that he was in violation of Regulation <br />9 and pleads guilty to the charges. <br />After due consideration, the Board makes the following finding in regards to said <br />Haney: <br />Officer John A. Haney of the South Bend Police Department pltads::guilty <br />to charges against him of Regulation 9 of the Rules and Regulations of <br />the Police Department and will be suspended from police duty from the 14th <br />day of January, 1959 up to and including the 20th day of January, 1959 and <br />will return to work for duty on the 21st day of January, 1959; further, said <br />Haney will be fined the sum of one -hundred ($100.00) dollars and beginning <br />with the next pay period the sum of five ($5.00) dollars will be withheld <br />and will continue until the fine terminates. <br />A petition is hereby received from Mrs. Robert Weller, 2218 Bertrand Street asking <br />for the improvement of 2200 and 2300 W. Bertrand Street from Huey Street to Olive <br />Street by the construction of street lights in the middle of block. Referred to <br />the City Electrical Department for investigation and recommendation. <br />The time now being after 10:00 A.M. it was so announced and the bids for the Police <br />Department were opened and read aloud. Proofs of publication in the South Bend Tri- <br />bune with an affidavit signed by C. G. Livengood and in the Record with an affidavit <br />signed by W. DeCanio were submitted to the Board and found swfficient. The bids re- <br />ceived read as follows: <br />Newman Altman Company <br />South Bend, Indiana <br />A non -collusion affidavit and a <br />certified check in the amount of <br />$500.00 accompanied the bid. <br />Three (3) 4-door V8 Sedans Studebaker Model 59V-W4 <br />Total price one unit --------------- $2398.99 <br />Total price three units------------ 7196.97 <br />Less trade-ins <br />Total net price ------ $4507.63 (3 units) <br />Freeman Spicer Company A non -collusion affidavit and a <br />South Bend, Indiana certified check in the amount of <br />$440.00 accompanied the bid. <br />Three (3) 4-door VW49 V-8 Engine Studebaker Larks <br />Total price one unit -------------- $2565.61 <br />Total price three units----------- 7696.83 <br />Less trade-ins and discount <br />Total net price ------ $4395.22 (3 units) <br />The bids will be taken under advisement and study and will be awarded at the <br />next regular meeting of the Board on -Monday, January 26, 1959. <br />There being no other business to come before the Board, the meeting was adjourned <br />at 10:45 A.M. <br />CHAIRMAN <br />ATTEST: ANf HONY J. 0, CLERK <br />
