7. Explain how the humanities and humanists are central to the project. Describe the project's major ideas and disciplines. The humanities provide the vehicle for both individuals and groups to utilize creative expression to confront significant human concerns. Thus, while concern- ing one's self with an art form, the individual is also encountering issues of more or less personal concern. In addition, the individual is also given the opportune y to contribute to the creative expression of his or her time. The philosophy of the Y.S.B. is one that utilizes various forms of activity (employment, recreation, and special events) to which an individual can relate his total lifestyle. In many ways, the positive or non - judgmental nature of activity can allow a person to express his own legitimate concerns and obstacles to growth. By involving individuals in the disciplines of the humanities, we will be providing another activity component in which young people can see themselves more clearly. Humanists have been involved throughout the planning stage of the project and are listed below. Their impact has been such that certain disciplines of interest to young people can be made accessible to them through careful preparation and follow -up. These disciplines include: oral and written history development, photographic investigation, a history and demonstration of the games and sports of a culture, dramatic interpretation of contemporary themes, and creative writing experiences exploring roles and concerns of an ethnic /neighborhood variety. 8. Humanists i and oral history are also being pursued. J. Schlereth Dr. Richmond Calvin of Notre Dame Indiana University at South Bend contacted and have indicated tentative i the area of dramatics, creative writing 9• Identify any other possible sources of cash support for this project. Two funding sources (non- federal) have been approached to provide cash match on the order of approximately $2500. One source is a local church and the other is a service club. These sources do not care to be identified at this time.
