LaMar Wilson Assistant Director February 21, 1979 Members of the Common Council 4th Floor, County -City Building South Bend, Indiana 46601 Dear Council Members: 1440 County -City Building South Bend, Indiana 46601 219/284 -9335 There will be presented at the February 26, 1979 Council meeting a resolution requesting authorization for the Youth Service Bureau to submit a preliminary inquiry (see attached project prospectus form) to the Indiana Committee for the Humanities. The amount of grant money requested is $6,500. The purpose of this project is to complement the rich tradition of the Summer Fun Program with a focus on neighborhood and ethnic awareness. The young parti- cipants of the Summer Fun Program will be involved in various humanities activi- ties, including oral and written histories, creative writing, dramatic presenta- tions and community forums. The Committee has expressed their desire for children's projects and preliminary discussions with their representatives have shown a favorable response to the Summer Fun Program. Humanities Projects require a dollar for dollar match and may be satisfied through either "in- kind" or cash sources. A tentative response has been received from a local contributor to meet the cash match needs of the proposal. This project will not involve any monies currently in the Youth Service Bureau budget!
