November 16, 1964 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, <br />November 16, 1964 at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes <br />of the last regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were <br />approved and ordered paid to the various suppliers. <br />CMLAI • SHIPPERS t DISPATC B I G JUNK A 0' BODIES <br />Cons now Mr. Walter Muday of Shippers' Dispatch to complain to the Board <br />about South Bend -Baling Company burning junked auto bodies in their yard <br />which is adjacent to the new terminal building of Shipers' Dispatch, <br />Mr. Muday advised the Board that the sparks from these Large fires <br />are carried to the Shippers' Dispatch premises and there is great <br />danger of damage to their loaded trucks which are covered with either <br />plastic or canvas tarpaulins. Mr. Muday further advised the Board <br />that there have been numerous fires at South Band Baling in 1964 and <br />that the Fire Department has been called out many tames to extinguish <br />these fares. This is in violation to a City Ordinance, according to <br />Mr. Muday. <br />Mr. Muday requested relief from this hazard before Shippers' Dispatch <br />moods into the new terminal in the near future. Mr. Muday also advised <br />the Board that he had brought this matter to the attention of the Fire <br />Department and that the Fire Department personnel had agreed that this <br />condition was a hazard. <br />Fire Chief McHenry, who was present at the Board meeting, advised the <br />Board that South Bend Baling had been operating in violation to the <br />City Ordinance on burning of junk auto bodies and that such continued <br />burning would constitute a hazard to the Shippers' Dispatch trucks. <br />After hearing all who wished to be heard, the Board ruled that it <br />will investigate this complaint and take action if South Bend Baling <br />is in violation of a City Ordinance. <br />PETITION: STREET LIGHT <br />A Petition from residents of the 2100 and 2200 blocks of S. Chapin <br />Street was submitted to the Board requesting the installation of a <br />street light on Chapin Street between Donald Street and Ewing Avenue. <br />The Petition was referred to the Electrical Department for investigation <br />and recommendation. <br />STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORTS <br />Street Light Outage Reports were accepted and ordered placed on file. <br />SPECIAL POLICE C%LIISSION AND BOND <br />A Special Police Commission and Bond for Walter Dill , employed by the <br />Progress Club as Custodian were approved by the Board and ordered placed <br />on f ale . <br />SPECIAL POLICE BOND - SOUTH BEND TRIBUNE EMPLOYEES <br />A Special Police Bond covering Special Police employed by the South Bend <br />Tribune was approved and ordered placed on file. <br />The employees covered are: Albert Jackson Dunkel, Karl F. Krienke, Boyd <br />Jimerson and Frank J. Wolfinger. <br />
