Bonnie Strycker
Executive Director
Michele Dobski
Assistant Director
CITY of SOUTH BEND
YOUTH SERVICE BUREAU
Tb: Members of the Common Council
From: Bonnie C. Strycker, Youth Service Bureau
Re: L.E.A.A. Grant Resolution
Date: April 23, 1980
121 South Michigan Street
South Bend, Indiana 46601
219/284 -9231
The Youth Service Bureau is requesting that the South Bend Common Council approve
a resolution allowing the Bureau to submit a grant application to the Law
Enforcement Assistance Administration to provide funding for office space for
the Youth Service Bureau's operation.
As you are aware, the Bureau is currently housed at 121 S. Michigan Street on
River Bend Plaza. This building will be demolished in the not too distant
future. The Bureau has searched for the past eighteen months for office space
that meets our need and at the same time is cost effective. Options have been
considered including renovation of a City owned property, purchase and renovation,
or rental of office space.
This grant application is for reprogrammed 1978 Law Enforcement Assistance
Administration funds. These funds are being requested for renovation, and
represent half of the total funds needed. Although not committed to renovation,
it was felt to be in the City's best interest to make application for these
funds. This application in no way commits the City. The application can be
withdrawn at any time.
I apologize for not making the members of the Common Council aware of this
sooner. I recently became aware of the possibility of using these funds for
renovation. Since the funds represent reprogrammed money, the turn around time
for application is short. This application will be placed on the May 7, 1980
L.E.A.A. Regional Advisory Committee agenda and on the State agenda on
June 13, 1980.
I appreciate your consideration and approval of this resolution. Please feel
free to call me if you have any questions.
