December 16, 1963 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, <br />December 16, 1963 at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes <br />of the last regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were <br />approved and ordered paid to the various suppliers. <br />AWARDING OF BID: POLICE DEPARTMENT(MOTORCYCLES <br />After examination of the Bid for Three Wheel Motorcycles for the <br />,Police Department, it was the decision of the Board to award the Bid. <br />as follows: <br />Harley_Davidson Sales <br />526 Western Ave. <br />South Bend, Indiana <br />4 - 1964 Three Wheel Motorcycles $60970.00 <br />Trade-in on 6 Three Wheel Motorcycles 1,350.00 <br />- <br />Total $5,620.00 <br />APPOINTMENTS: POLICE DEPARTMENT HAMMER & DELINSKI ) <br />Following the recommendation of Police Chief Orson E. Harman and <br />the applicants having met the qualifications set by the Board of Public <br />Safety and also having met the requirements of the Pension Board <br />the following applicants for the Police Department are hereby <br />appointed to said Department, effective December 16, 1963; <br />James Edward Hammer <br />Kenneth Edward Delinski <br />RETIREMENTS: POLICE DEPARTMENT TSS'T _CHIEF BURKHART & CAPT. ZIELINSKI <br />The Board of Public Safety accepted the requests of the following <br />Police Officers for Retirement from the Police Department: <br />Assistant Police Chief Richard E. Burkhart will terminate his employ- <br />ment effective December 31, 1963 and will be placed on Pension on <br />January 1, 1964 after 21 years, 9 months and 22 days of continuous <br />service on the Department. <br />Captain Casimer Zielinski will retire after completing 21 years, 9 months <br />and 22 days as a member of the Police Department, to be effective on <br />January 1, 1964. <br />The Board directed the Secretary of the Board to address letters to <br />both Officers thanking them for their years of service to the City and <br />to the Police Department and wishing them well in the future. <br />RETIREMENT: FIRE DEPARTMENT FITZGERALD <br />Following the recommendation of the Firemen's Pension Fund, as outlined <br />in a letter from Fire Chief Alex M. Andrzejewski, the Board of Public <br />Safety accepted the Service Pension of Thomas J. Fitzgerald as a fully <br />paid first class fireman, effective December 16, 1963 which coincides <br />with the applicant's termination of fire service. <br />The applicant's tenure of service from August 1, 1930 to December 16, <br />1963 has made him fully qualified to participate in all benefits therefrom <br />pursuant to law and provided for such purposes. <br />The Board directed the Secretary to address a letter to Fireman <br />Fitzgerald thanking him for his years of service to the City and to <br />the Fire Department and wish him well in the future. <br />
