August 19, 1963 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, <br />August 19, 1963 at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes <br />of the last regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were <br />approved and ordered paid to the various suppliers. <br />BUILDIt!g DEPARTMENT �SUB,'9STANDARD DIVISION - HEARINGS1 <br />Comes now John Grabarz, of the Sub -Standard Division, with Mrs. Graham, <br />owner of property located at 1125 Burns Avenue. <br />Mrs. Graham was allowed a continuance in this case to permit her to <br />investigate whether it is practical to repair property. <br />Comes now Mrs. Graham and informs the Board that she has not been able <br />to get sufficient funds to make the necessary repairs. <br />Mr. Howell also substantiated her claim that no money is available for <br />all the repairs necessary. <br />After hearing all who wished to be heard, it was the decision of the <br />Board to proceed with taking of bids and charge against the property. <br />Mr. Smith advised Mrs. Graham that the City will pay for the demoltion <br />and there will be a lien on the property. <br />With reference to property located at 1910 S. Grant Street, Mr. Grabarz <br />requested permission to have house demolished. He further advised the <br />Board that all parties of interest had been notified. <br />The Board ruled to proceed with demolition. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT: ATTEND COURSE AT NORTHWESTERN U._( KNEPPER & BUSSERT). <br />Officer L. M. Bussert and Officer G. J. Knepper were granted permission <br />to attend an Accident Investigation Course at Northwestern University <br />from September 9 through September 27, 1963 inclusive. <br />Permission granted. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT: RESIGNATION OFFICER SEACH <br />The Board accepted the resignation of Officer Jerald P. Seach, effective <br />August 22, 1963. Officer Seach is leaving to take employment with the <br />Unived S�ates Government. He has served on the Department since April <br />5, 1954. <br />FIRE_ DEPARTMENT: REPORT ONE UIPMEINL PUMP <br />Captain Leo Banacki, Captain Anthony Gadaca, Captain Carl B. Martz-, Jr., <br />and Captain Ted Kanczuzewski, all mechanics with the Fire Department, <br />signed a written report which was submitted to the Board by the fire <br />Chief that they have examined an American Marsh Front Mount 500 G.P.M. <br />at 120#- Single Stage, South Bend Fire Department equipment and as it <br />remains now, is only good for salvage. Its present condition makes it <br />worth approximately $25.00. The Board orders this equipment sold$ <br />REPORT: TRAFFIC ENGINEER (_RAILROAD GROSSING —OLIVE & SAMPLE ) <br />A written report from Clem Hazinski, Traffic Engineer, was submitted <br />to the Board, as requested. The report points out that the railroad cross- <br />ing at the New York Central System tracks at Olive and Sample Street <br />is rough and hazardous. <br />Mr. Hazinski advised the Board that he has contacted the New York <br />Central System by telephone on preNious occasions and on August 14, <br />o963 a letter was sent to the division engineer in Chicago.
