June 101, 1963 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, <br />June 109 1963 at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of <br />;the last regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were <br />approved and ordered paid to the various suppliers. <br />HEARING: BEVERLY PLACE —ONE WAY TRAFFIC TRAFFIC ENGINEER Z <br />A hearing on the one way system now in effect on Beverly Place was <br />had on this date. <br />After examination, it was the decision of the Board that the one-way <br />system shall stand. It was also the decision of the Board that no <br />parking should be put into effect on the shoulders and that speed <br />control be effected, subject to the Traffic Engineer's findings. <br />Comes now Mr. Don Yates who represents a group of residents in the <br />area and informs the Board that the group will accept the one-way <br />system provided that steps be taken in the near future to widen <br />the street under Barrett Law so that it can be made a full street <br />and a two-way street. <br />TRAFFIC ENGINEER: TRAFFIC SIGNS ) <br />Following the recommendation of the Traffic Engineer, the following <br />installations were approved: <br />Pedestrian crossing signs & crosswalk installed in the 600 block <br />of Chapin Street at Oliver Company Plant gate. <br />No Parking signs installed 60 feet north and south of Oliver <br />Plant Company gate in the 600 block of Chapin Street. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT - HEARINGS ( SUB -STANDARD DIVISION <br />Comes now Mr. John Grabarz, Director of the Sub -Standard Division of <br />the Building Department, and advises the Board that property being <br />purchased by Mrs. Clara Thomas on Land Contract, located at 317 S. <br />Kentucky Street is sub -standard and repair orders have been issued. <br />The former owner, Mr. James Cauffman, now deceased was given additional <br />time in which to repair this property. <br />His widow was requested to appear to show cause why repair orders had <br />not been complied with, but she failed to appear. <br />It was the decision of the Board, after hearing Mrs. Thomas who stated <br />that she did not have the necessary funds to make the repairs, that <br />this house must be brought up to standard. <br />Hearing continued for one week to allow Mrs. Thomas time to decide <br />what course to pursue. <br />Comes now Mrs. Flordia Smith, formerly Miss F. washingto n, with reference <br />to property at 302 S. Liberty Street. <br />Mrs. Smith requested an extension of time in which to bring property <br />up to standard. After hearing Mrs. Smith, it was the decision of <br />the Board that an extension be granted for 90 days to bring property <br />up to standard. However, the Board further ruled that this property <br />must not be 6ccupied in its present condition. Mrs. Smith agreed to <br />vacate property in one week and, in the meantime, to use it as a <br />sterage place only. She and her family will sleep elsewhere. <br />With reference to property located at 122 Studebaker Street, the Board <br />directed Mr. Grabarz to order property condemned and to send letter to <br />the Welfare Department. Mr. Grabarz informed the Board that he had <br />received a letter from the known party of interest. <br />With reference to property located at 517 E.Bronson Street, owned by <br />Ivan Rogers, Mr. Grabarz advised the Board that this property had <br />been condemned and ordered torn down.
