ITO May 6, 1963 A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, May 61 1963 at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of the last regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were approved and ordered paid to the various suppliers. PETITION: COUNCILMAN MUSZYNSKI - HEALTH PROBLEM Comes now Councilman Muszynski with a Petition from residents of the 3400 block of Western Avenue to complain about rodents in the area which presents a health problem. After hearing Councilman Muszynski, the Board referred the petition to the representative of the Board of Health who was present at the meeting with the request that the Board of Health investigate the complaint and take measures for a solution. BUILDING DEPARTMENT: OFFICE ENGINEERS REMODELING OVERHANG ) Comes now Louis Smogor, Building Commissioner, and reports that the Office Engineers are remodeling and request permission to construct an overhang extending approximately four inches over the sidewalk at 116 S. Michigan Street. The Board, being assured that the structure is being erected in a workmanlike manner and is not a hazard to the public, hereby grants permission for the construction of the facing with the stipulation that insurance be provided, indemnifying the City of South Bend for accident and property damage in the following amounts: $100,000 each individual accident, $300,000 aggregate accident and $25,000 property damage. Proof of insurance must be filed with the Board of Public Works & Safety. BUILDING DEPARTMENT: SHEEHAN PROPERTY ( LASALLE & MICHIGAN ) Comes now Louis Smogor, Building Commissioner, and requests permission to advertise for bids to clean up the vacant property located at Michigan and LaSalle, owned by William Sheehan. Mr. Smogor advised the Board that Mr. Sheehan had been notified by the Building Department to clean up the vacant property but, up to this time, had taken no action. Permission granted to place advertisements for bids, as requested. BUILDING DEPARTMENT ( SUB -STANDARD DIVISION - HEARINGS Comes now John Grabarz, Director of the Sub -Standard Division of the Building Department, and advises the Board that the owners of property located at 617 Neddo Court had been requested to appear before the Board on this date to show cause why repair orders had not been complied with. The owner had appealed demolition orders and said orders had been set aside with the understanding that property would be brought up to standard. Since repairs have not been made, Mr. Grabarz reported:'.that he: -had notified owner by certified mail that he was to appear before the Board on this date, but had not received a reply to date. It was the decision of the Board to continue said hearing for one week to allow sufficient time for Mr. Jewell Williams, the owner of the property in question to receive letter and contact the Building Sub - Standard Division of his -proposed plans.
