ITO <br />May 6, 1963 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, <br />May 61 1963 at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of <br />the last regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were <br />approved and ordered paid to the various suppliers. <br />PETITION: COUNCILMAN MUSZYNSKI - HEALTH PROBLEM <br />Comes now Councilman Muszynski with a Petition from residents of the <br />3400 block of Western Avenue to complain about rodents in the area <br />which presents a health problem. <br />After hearing Councilman Muszynski, the Board referred the petition <br />to the representative of the Board of Health who was present at the <br />meeting with the request that the Board of Health investigate the <br />complaint and take measures for a solution. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT: OFFICE ENGINEERS REMODELING OVERHANG ) <br />Comes now Louis Smogor, Building Commissioner, and reports that the <br />Office Engineers are remodeling and request permission to construct <br />an overhang extending approximately four inches over the sidewalk <br />at 116 S. Michigan Street. <br />The Board, being assured that the structure is being erected in a <br />workmanlike manner and is not a hazard to the public, hereby grants <br />permission for the construction of the facing with the stipulation <br />that insurance be provided, indemnifying the City of South Bend <br />for accident and property damage in the following amounts: $100,000 <br />each individual accident, $300,000 aggregate accident and $25,000 <br />property damage. Proof of insurance must be filed with the Board of <br />Public Works & Safety. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT: SHEEHAN PROPERTY ( LASALLE & MICHIGAN ) <br />Comes now Louis Smogor, Building Commissioner, and requests <br />permission to advertise for bids to clean up the vacant property <br />located at Michigan and LaSalle, owned by William Sheehan. Mr. <br />Smogor advised the Board that Mr. Sheehan had been notified by the <br />Building Department to clean up the vacant property but, up to <br />this time, had taken no action. <br />Permission granted to place advertisements for bids, as requested. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT ( SUB -STANDARD DIVISION - HEARINGS <br />Comes now John Grabarz, Director of the Sub -Standard Division of the <br />Building Department, and advises the Board that the owners of property <br />located at 617 Neddo Court had been requested to appear before the <br />Board on this date to show cause why repair orders had not been complied <br />with. The owner had appealed demolition orders and said orders had <br />been set aside with the understanding that property would be brought <br />up to standard. <br />Since repairs have not been made, Mr. Grabarz reported:'.that he: -had <br />notified owner by certified mail that he was to appear before the <br />Board on this date, but had not received a reply to date. <br />It was the decision of the Board to continue said hearing for one week <br />to allow sufficient time for Mr. Jewell Williams, the owner of the <br />property in question to receive letter and contact the Building Sub - <br />Standard Division of his -proposed plans. <br />
