65 <br />June 25, 1962 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works & Safety was held on <br />Monday, June.25, 1962 at 10:00 A.M. DST. All members were present. <br />Minutes of the last regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers <br />were approved and ordered paid to the various suppliers. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT ( HOUSE MOVE ) <br />The Building Department requested permission of the Board to rove a <br />dwelling from 220 W. Navarre Street to 1362 N. Elmer Street. The owner <br />and mover of said dwelling is Irvin T. Worden. The dwelling is a <br />two story dwelling. The house has been inspected by John A. Grabarz, <br />Director of the Sub -Standard Division of the Building Department and <br />has been found to be in good condition. All the necessary affidavits <br />have been received from the utility companies and the property owners <br />in the immediate vicinity have been notified. <br />Comes now property owners to protest said move on the grounds that <br />1 <br />the house is obsolete and will look out of place in a neighborhood <br />condittin in g� part, of one story dwellings. The property owners <br />also wish to know who will occupy this house and what guarantee they <br />have that it will be kept in good condition. <br />A petition signed by property owners on Elwood and Elmer Street was <br />filed with the Board. A letter signed by Mr.a nd Mrs. C. Szczeckowski <br />and a letter signed by LaVerne MacDonald of 2209 Elwood Avenue was <br />filed with the Board. Both letters and the petition were ordered <br />placed on file. Mrs. Dorothk Williams, 1321 N. Elmer appeared to remonstrate. <br />Mr. Irving J. Smith, Chairman of the Board of Public Safety and <br />City Attorney, informed the remonstrators, as follows: <br />If the owner and the mover file bonds indemnifying the City of South <br />Bend and property owners for any personal damage or property damagaii <br />and if the house is not in violation of any of the prevailing Codes, <br />and if it meets the required inspections, said house can be moved and <br />can be placed on the premises and can be occupied if all of these <br />conditions are fulfilled. <br />After all who appeared had been heard on the premises, it was the <br />decision of the Board to continue this hearing for one week, or until <br />July 21 1962 in order to allow sufficient time for Mr. Grabarz to <br />talk personally with the remonstrators and allow them' to inspect the <br />various Codes and provisions involved in this move. <br />With reference to a hearing oh property located at 311 E. Paris Street, <br />at the recommendation of Mr. Grabarz, this hearing is condinued for <br />six weeks. <br />A progress report on property located at 812 S. Rush Street was made <br />by Mr. C. M. Boynton, attorney representing the Hay Estate of which <br />this property is a part. Mr. Boynton informed the Board that contracts <br />were entered into with Ham, The Wrecker on June 11, 1962 for removal <br />of said premises. Mr. Grabarz was directed to contact Ham, The Wrecker <br />to proceed with this work. <br />ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT - STREET LIGHT INSTALLATIONS <br />Following the recommendation of Nicholas Horvath, Electrical Department <br />Superintendent, the following installation was approved: <br />1 - 4000 lumen street at 840 Sylvan Lane. <br />
