IE <br />May 21, 1962 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, <br />May 21, 1962 at 10:00 A.M. DST. All members were present. Minutes <br />of the last regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were <br />approved and ordered paid to the various suppliers. <br />BEARING: VIOLATION OF REGULATION NO. 12 RULES AND REGULATIONS OF THE <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT ( FLOYD CiRAPLIWIC ) <br />Hearing having been set for 9:30 A.M. in the matter of Floyd Chrapliwy, <br />a member of the South Bend Police Department, a copy of a communication <br />addressed to Floyd Chrapliwy was read and he acknowledged receipt of <br />same on May 18, 1962. A copy of the Charge was read and he further <br />acknowledged receipt of this Charge on May 189 1962. <br />Upon reading of said Charge, said officer was asked as to whether he <br />admitted the charge. He admitted that he was guilty and was guilty of <br />Violation No. 12 of the Rules and Regulations of the Police Department. <br />Copy of the Charge is hereby made a part of these proceedings and ordered <br />placed on file. <br />Officer Chrapliwy has been under suspension since May 160 1962. <br />Based upon Officer Chrapliwy•s admission of the Charge, it is the decision <br />of the Board that Officer Chrapliwy shall return to work on this date <br />and shall-::rovork without compensation from May 169 1962 for a period of <br />29 days inclusive. <br />REQUEST: ANGLE PARKING ( POWER BRAKE & SERVICE. INC. ) <br />TRAFFIC ENGINEER <br />Comes now Clem Hazinski, Traffic tngineer, and reports that Mr. Michael <br />J. Kedik, 1654 N. Brookfield St., who operates the Power Brake & Service, <br />Inc. at Iowa and Western Avenue had requested angle parking on Iowa <br />Street. <br />Mr. Hazinski reported that he had made an investigation of the requested <br />location and it was his opinion that angle parking would result in a <br />traffic hazard and recommended to Mr. Kedik that he use facilities in <br />the rear of his building. Mr. Kedik was in agreement with this. <br />Following the recommendation of the Traffic Engineer, the Board hereby <br />denies the request. <br />PERMISSION TO ADVERTISE ( BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SEDAN ) <br />Verner Lane, Building Commissioner, requested permission to have advertise- <br />ments placed in The South Bend Tribune and The Record for a 1962 Economy <br />Model Two -door Sedan. Advertisements will be placed on May 259 June 1. <br />Sealed bids will be opened on June 4, 1262 in the office of the Board. <br />ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT ( STREET LIGHTS ) <br />Following the recommendation -of Nicholas Horvath, Electrical Department <br />Superintendent, the following installations were approved by the Board: <br />Install 1 - 4000 lumen street light at the 4800 Block Meadow Lane. <br />Install 1 - 4000 lumen street light at 816 E. Calvert St. <br />Increase a 2500 lumen light to a 4000 lumen light at 830 E. Calvert St. <br />Install 1 - 4000 lumen light at 1000 E. Calvert St. <br />ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT ( PETITION FOR STREET LIGHT ) <br />A Petition from Robert Ladyga and others for a street light fixture <br />attached to the light pole standing in front of 1621 E. Randolph Street <br />was referred to the Electrical Department for investigation and recommendation. <br />
