1.- <br />March 5, 1962 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, March <br />51, 1962 at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of the last <br />regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were approved and <br />ordered paid to the various suppliers: <br />TAXICAB LICENSE HEARING ( R. ELLIS <br />This`:being-:;the date:�,set, hearing was held on the transfer of a taxicab <br />license for Richard Ellis. Proofs of Publication for said hearing from <br />The South Bend Tribune with affidavit signed by Robert DeLong and The <br />Record with affidavit signed by Kathleen Sweitzer were found sufficient. <br />Copies of letters sent to Mr. Ellis, Flash Cabs, Indiana Cab, Courtesy <br />Cab and Teamsters Local 364 were examined and found sufficient. <br />There being no remonstrators and no written remonstrances having been <br />received, and the Board being advised that this license represents a <br />transfer (former operator being Robert E. Gawthorpe) said request is <br />granted by the Board subject to conformity to City Ordinances. <br />PROMOTIONS ( FIRE DEPARTMENT) <br />The following promotions in the Fire Department were approved by the <br />Board: <br />Lt. James Humphrey to Captain, effective March 16, 1962 <br />Pvt. Melvin Hickey to Lt., effective March 16, 1962. <br />Pvt. Benedict Kowalski to Lt., effective March 16, 1962., <br />Assignments for the above will be made by the Fire Chief. <br />PETITIONS ( STREET LIGHTS) ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT_ <br />The following Petitions for street lights were referred to the Electrical <br />Department for investigation and recommendation: <br />Westminster Presbyterian Church <br />Pierce Street, at alley from Leland to Portage. <br />Lindsey Street, from Scott to Leland. <br />STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORTS <br />treet Light Outage Reports were accepted and ordered placed on file. <br />SPECIAL POLICE COMMISSIONL AND BONDS <br />The following Special Police Commissions and Bonds:wexe'apProved_.by-the Board: <br />Walter W. Jenczewski, new Bond <br />Robert Randel Henry, new Commission <br />SPECIAL POLICE BONDS ( TORRINGTON) <br />Special Police Bonds for the following employees of Torrington were <br />approved and ordered placed on file: <br />Louis F. Tomshock and Frank Sochocki, Jr. <br />APPLICATIONS ( POLICE DEPARTMENT ) <br />The following applications for the Police Department were accepted and <br />ordered placed on file: Edward Isaac Friend, Mrs. Diane Myers Steinbeck. <br />TRAFFIC ENGINEER - ATTEND ROAD SCHOOL ( PURDUE) <br />Clem Hazinski, Traffic Engineer, requested permission for himself and <br />Gregory Armstrong of the Traffic Engineering Department, to attend the <br />Road School to be conducted at Purdue University from March 26, through <br />March 29, 1962. <br />There being sufficient funds for such a trip, permission granted. <br />
