February 13, 1962 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Tuesday, <br />February 13, 1962 at 10:00 A.M. CST. All members were present. Minutes <br />of the last regular meeting and the special meeting were read and approved. <br />Vouchers were approved and ordered paid to the various suppliers. <br />ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT ( PERMISSION TO ADVERTISE FOR TRUCK) <br />Comes now Nicholas Horvath, Superintendent of the Electrical Department, <br />and requests permission to advertise for bids for a one-half Ton Cab <br />& Chassis Truck with Utility Body. <br />Permission granted and bdvertisements will be placed in The South Bend <br />Tribune and The Record on February 169 February 23. Sealed bids will <br />be opened on February 269 1962 at 10:00 A.M. <br />ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT ( PETITIONS FOR STREET LIGHFS <br />A Petition signed by resigents of Phillips Street requesting a street <br />light on Phillipa Street between Western Avenue and Huron Street and <br />' a Petition from residents of Fisher Street and surrounding area, <br />requesting a street light on Fisher between Olive and Meade Streets <br />were referred to the Electrical Department for investigation and <br />recommendation. <br />STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORTS <br />Street Light Outage Reports were accepted and ordered placed on file. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT (RE: NEW FIRESTONE BUILDING - APPROVAL OF PLANS <br />Comes now Verner Lane, Building Commissioner, and requests the Board <br />to approve plans for a new Firestone Building to be erected on the <br />Southeast corner of South Michigan and Bronson Street. <br />Mr. Lane informed the Board that his department had approved the plans <br />and recommended that the plans be approved. <br />He further requested permission of the Board to allow the erection of <br />a canopy to extend over the sidewalk. <br />Permission granted, provided insurance is secured, indemnifying the <br />City of South Bend for $1009000 per individual accident, $300,000 <br />aggregate accident and $50,000 property damage. Certificates of <br />Insurance are to be forwarded to the Office of the Board and placed <br />on file and are to be renewed each year. It is further ordered that <br />all provisions of the Building Department be met. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT ( RE: WYMAN'S REMODELING - BARRICADE SIDEWALK) <br />Comes now Verner Lane, Building Commissioner, and requests permission <br />to allow the sidewalk in front of Wyman's Department Store to be <br />barricaded at the time of the remodeling of the store. <br />The Board directed Mr. Lane to coordinate this matter with Mr. Andrysiak, <br />City Engineer, and Mr. Hazinski, Traffic Engineer, and report findings <br />after examination, to the Board. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARD DIVISION ( HEARINGS) <br />Comes now Verner Lane, in the absence of Mr. Grabarz, and reports to <br />the Board that Miss Daar, owner of property located at 513-515 Pennsylvania <br />Avenue had failed to appear before the Board as directed to show cause <br />why the above -mentioned property had not been brought up to standard. <br />Mr. Lane reported that Miss Daar had received a Certified letter, return <br />receipt requested and returned. <br />Under these circumstances, Mr. Lane requested permission to proceed with <br />Condemnation Order and to advertise for bids to demolish the houses. <br />
