Members of the Common Council <br />September 15, 1980 <br />Page -2- <br />The nature of the site is such that public investment is <br />necessary to make the project happen in South Bend, Indiana. <br />The proposed developers of the project, New Energy Corporation <br />of Indiana, have a similar option on a site in LaPorte County <br />that would require very little preparation for development. <br />I believe that the proposed project will have tremendous <br />direct and spin -off benefits for the City of South Bend. Not <br />only will there be an estimated 1,000 new jobs and a large in- <br />crease in the tax base, but the prospects for related industries <br />to locate in South Bend as a result of this facility are sub- <br />stantial.
