r, _ ; '~ <br />'~: ~ COMMUNITY RELATIONS COMMITTEE 8~ HEALTH AND PUBLIC <br />SAFETY COMMITTEE <br />OCTOBER 12, 2009 <br />Chairperson Henry Davis, Jr., Chairperson Community Relations Committee and Chairperson <br />White, Health and Public Safety Committee, called the joint committee meeting to order at 4:36 <br />p. m. <br />Community Relations Committee Members: David Varner, Ann Puzzello, Karen L. White <br />Health and Public Safety Committee Members: Henry Davis, Jr., Ann Puzzello, Timothy Rouse, <br />Marcus Ellison, Citizen Member, Valerie Schey, Citizen Member <br />Other Council Present: Derek Dieter, Tom LaFountain, Oliver Davis, AI "Buddy" Kirsits <br />Others Present: Mayor Luecke, Martha Lewis, Jerry Niezgodski, George Lane, Roz Ellis, Judy <br />Jankowski, Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand, Jeff Parrott, Rita Kopala <br />Agenda: Update on H1N1 Virus <br />Chairperson White, Health and Public Safety Committee with the acquiescence of Community <br />Relations Chairperson Henry Davis, Jr., opened the meeting. She explained the joint hearing <br />was part of the Council's ongoing effort to build bridges of cooperation and collaboration between <br />the City and the South Bend Community School Corporation. Of immediate interest was a review <br />of the schools efforts to combat the threat of the H1 N1 virus as well as the overall efforts of the <br />St. Joseph County Health Department. Representing the schools was Roz Ellis, Vice-Chair of the <br />Corporation. Mrs. Ellis' extensive report to the Council was supplemented by handouts included <br />here. Council Attorney Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand added information from the Health <br />Department which listed websites for additional information. Citizen Member Valerie Schey <br />provided a handout of her own research expanding information available on the H1 N1 virus. This <br />is also attached. <br />Chairperson White and Chairperson Henry Davis Jr., thanked Mrs. Ellis for the information. <br />Following brief discussion the meeting was adjourned at 5:04 p.m. <br />Respectfully Submitted, <br />~~ <br />Karen L.
