.~
4
PUBLIC WORKS AND PROPERTY VACATION 10-26-09
David Varner, Chairperson, Public Works and Property Vacation Committee called the meeting to
order at 3:30 p.m.
Committee Members Present: Timothy Rouse, Tom LaFountain, Jerry Niezgodski
Other Councilmember's Present: Ann Puzzello, Oliver Davis, Derek Dieter
Other's Present: Chuck Bulot, Rita Kopala, Gary Gilot, Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand, John Voorde
Agenda: Bill No. 80-09 -Delete Sections 6-26 through 6-26.4 of Chapter 6, Article 6, of
the South Bend Municipal Code Pertaining to Low Voltage Contractors
With a quorum present, Dr. Varner, Chairperson of the committee recognized Chuck Bulot,
Building Commissioner to make the presentation of Bill No. 80-09. He noted that on February 9,
2009, the Council passed a bill his department requested which regulated low-voltage
contractors. Since then it was determined this regulation was not needed. Developing
technology as well as negative feedback resulted in the Building Departments change of mind.
As a result the bill he now asks support for would repeal the earlier Council action. Dr. Varner
asked Gary Gilot if the city's wireless connections were secure. Gilot said all Homeland Security
provisions were met or exceeded by the city. Councilmember Rouse moved to recommend
favorably. Citizen Member Jerry Niezgodski seconded and all concurred.
There being no further business to come before the Committee at this time, Chairperson Varner
adjourned the meeting at 3:35 p.m.
Respectfully Submitted,

David Varner, Chairperson
Public Works and Property Vacation Committee
