St. Joseph County Prosecutor's Office to help man that Office's Family Violence Unit to better deal <br />with domestic violence issues throughout St. Joseph County; and <br />WHEREAS, in the past South Bend officers assigned to Family Violence Unit never held a <br />rank higher than Sergeant; and <br />WHEREAS, the St. Joseph County Prosecutor is the recipient of monies under the "Stop <br />Violence Against Women Recovery Act Grant" and under the terms of that Grant monies will be <br />provided to pay for a South Bend Police Department officer to fill the higher rank of Lieutenant; and <br />WHEREAS, this position would be in addition to the Lieutenancies which currently exist in <br />the South Bend Police Department; and <br />WHEREAS, with the continued economic uncertainty ahead for all City departments, it is not <br />clear if the continued existence of a Lieutenant position in the Family Violence Unit beyond the <br />terms <br />• the Grant would be the best use • monies allocated to the South Bend Police Department. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF PUBLIC SAFETY OF <br />THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA that concerning the newly created Lieutenant position to <br />be assigned to the St. Joseph County Family Violence Unit: <br />I . The Chief of Police may assign, on a probationary basis, a Sergeant to the rank of <br />Lieutenant in the Family Violence Unit for a period of two (2) years from this date; and <br />2. The Chief of Police shall have the authority to remove the officer so assigned at any <br />time within the two (2) year period and to reassign him/her as a Sergeant or as a Lieutenant. <br />I In all other aspects and for all other positions Resolution 57 -2006 shall remain in full <br />force and effect, <br />• 17M <br />ATTEST: <br />s/Linda M.
