October 14, 1968 <br />A regular meeting, of the Board of Safety met at 10:00 A.M. on October 14, 1968, <br />with Arthur W. Frisk and James A. Bickel present. The minutes of the previous <br />meeting were reviewed and approved. <br />APPLICATIONS FOR APPOINTMENT TO POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />The following applications for appointment to the South Bend Police Department <br />-were filed and referred to the Personnel Director for further processing: <br />Larry Eugene Hill <br />Robert Lee Lanchsweerdt <br />Gaylord Lee Stickler <br />RETIREMENT FROM FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />Upon the recommendation of Acting Fire Chief Joseph L-. Zurat the Board, upon <br />motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, accepted and approved the <br />retirement of fireman John Hadrick; Jr., effective as of October 10, 1968, <br />Mr. Hadrick having served 26 years and 11 months with the Fire Department. <br />APPOINTMENTS TO POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />Upon the recommendation of Chief of Police Thomas H. Scott Street, South Bend, -Indiana <br />Larry Dean Vergon - 1833 Irvington, South Bend, Indiana <br />STATISTICAL REPORT FOR SEPTEMBER, 1968 - POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />The statistical report.for September, 1968, was reviewed and ordered filed. <br />REQUEST OF FOCUS MICHIANA MAGAZINE TO WRITE AN ARTICLE ON SOUTH BEND <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />Acting Chief Joseph L. Zurat reported to the Board receipt of a letter <br />from Focus Magazine requesting permission for a representative from that <br />magazine to spend about 24 hours with the South Bend Fire Department, includ- <br />ing accompanying firemen on runs in response to fire alarms. The motion was <br />made, seconded and carried that the request be granted, provided, however, <br />that a definite time be set for such activity and that said Magazine provide <br />the City with a release acceptable to the City Legal Department to hold the <br />City harmless from any liability which might result from such activity. <br />STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORTS for the period 10/3/68 to 10/10/68 were received <br />and filed. <br />There being no further business to come befor the Board, the meeting adjourned <br />at 11:30 A.M. <br />Arthur W.
