3591 <br />September 9, 1968. <br />A regular meeting of_the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 10:00 <br />A.M. Arthur W. Frisk and Lloyd S. Taylor were present. The minutes of the <br />two previous meetings were reviewed and approved. <br />REQUEST•FOR TRANSFER OF FUNDS - FIRE DEPARTMENT-.$2200.00 <br />F ire -Chief Cecil McHenry requests the transfer of $1000.00 from Account Q-11 <br />(personnel) to Account Q-43 (repair parts) and the transfer of $.1200.00.from <br />Account Q-11 (personnel) to Account Q-252 (repairs of equipment), said request <br />being made for anticipated repairs to equipment. Upon motion made, seconded <br />and carried, the Board approved the request for the preparation of an <br />ordinance for the consideration of the Common Council, and the matter is re- <br />ferred to the Legal Department for the preparation of an ordinance. <br />REQUEST TO ATTEND INDIANA ASSN. OF CITIES & TOMS CONVENTION, EVANSVILLE <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the request of <br />Fire Chief Cecil McHenry to attend the Indiana Association of Cities and <br />Towns convention in Evansville, Indiana, on September 16, 17 and 18, 1968. <br />�. REQUEST OF CHIEF OF POLICE McNAUGHTON FOR TWO OFFICERS TO ATTEND <br />CT3 THE "AMERICANS FOR LAW & ORDER CAMP -IN" MUNC`IE INDIANA <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the request of Chief of Police <br />U Thomas McNaughton for two officers from the Community Relations Division <br />to attend the "Americans for Law and Order Camp -In" at Muncie, Indiana, <br />and to Omi'.Ve Mechanical #44 and pull the Division's trailer, September 13 <br />to.15, 1968, was approved by the Board. <br />RETIREMENT FROM POLICE DEPARTMENT - MANUAL SADURAL <br />Upon the recommendation of Chief of Police Thomas McNaughton, upon motion <br />made, seconded sand carried, the Board approved the retirement of officer <br />Manual Sadural from the Police Department, effective September 15, 1968, <br />having been appointed September 10, 1945, and having served more than 23 <br />years. <br />CHANGE OF AGE REQUIREMENT - POLICE DEPARTMENT - TO 21 TO 35 YEARS <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the following Resolution was <br />adopted to change the age requirement for appointment to the South Bend <br />Police Department from 21 to 31 years to 21 to 35 years: <br />"WHEREAS, the Acts of 1935, Chapter 185, Section 1, as <br />amended, of the Acts of the Indiana General Assembly <br />provide that no person shall be appointed to the Police <br />Department after such person has attained his 35th birth- <br />day, and <br />"WHEREAS, the age limits for appointment to the Police <br />Department of the City of South Bend have heretofore re- <br />quired applicants to be between the ages of 21 and 31 <br />years. <br />"BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Safety that the age re- <br />quirements for applicants to the Police Department for <br />the City of South Bend shall be that such applicant shall <br />have attained the age of 35 years." <br />REQUEST FOR POLICE OFFICER AT FRIDAY NIGHT COURT SESSIONS <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the request of <br />Forrest West, Building Commissioner, for a uniformed police officer to attend <br />Friday night court sessions from 5:00 P.M. until adjournment of court and <br />until the building is secured by the custodian. Mr. West explained this <br />request is made as the result of a degree of vandalism experienced at the <br />Friday night sessions. <br />APPLICATIONS FOR APPOINTMENT TO FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />The following applications for appointment to the Fire Department were <br />filed and referred to the Personnel Director for processing: <br />Chester Stuart Aldridge <br />Robert Albert Heick <br />
