August 5, 1968. <br />='I <br />1 <br />�l <br />E <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works & Safety met at 10:00 A.M. <br />on August 5, 1968, with all members present. The minutes of the last <br />meeting were reviewed and approved. <br />RETIREMENT FROM FIRE DEPARTMENT - ANTHONY C. KOVATCH <br />Upon the recommendation of Fire Chief McHenry, the Board accepted and <br />approved the application and declaration for retirement of Anthony C. <br />Kovatch effective September 2, 1968, Mr. Kovatch having been appointed <br />February 16, 1948, and having served more than 20 years. <br />NOTICE OF RETIREMENT FROM FIRE DEPARTMENT - FIRE CHIEF CECIL McHENRY <br />Notice of retirement September 9, 1968, or as soon thereafter as a <br />successor is appointed,.was filed with the Board by Chief McHenry. The <br />Board expressed its appreciation of the long service of Chief McHenry <br />and regret at his coming retirement. <br />FIRE PROTECTION AGREEMENT - PORTAGE TOWNSHIP <br />Communication from James A. Bickel, City Controller, regarding the Fire <br />protection agreement with Portage Township was read and ordered filed. <br />Mr. Frisk will write the Porta§e Township Trustees to determine their <br />intentions as to future fire protection for Portage. Township outside the <br />city limits of South Bend. <br />APPLICATIONS - POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />The following applications for appointment to the South Bend Police Depart- <br />ment were filed with the Board and referred to the Personnel Director for <br />further processing: <br />Melvin Thomas Chrapliwy <br />Gregory Oren Dawson <br />Gerald Joseph Grontkowski <br />Robert Wm. Peterson <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT TRAFFIC REPORT FOR JULY, 1968 <br />Traffic arrest report f6r July, 1968, by the Police Department was reviewed <br />and ordered filed. <br />SPECIAL POL ICE`'OFF ICER' S BOND <br />Special police officer's bond on behalf of Mozelle Toth, Mishawaka, Indiana, <br />employed at Robertson's, was approved by the Board. <br />PARKING PROHIBITED - S. CHAPIN STREET FROM WESTERN SOUTH TO R R VIADUCT <br />Upon the recommendation of Clem F. Hazinski, Traffic Director, the Board <br />approved the following: <br />To prohibit parking on both sides of S. Chapin Street, from <br />Western south to the Railroad viaduct, being 400 and 500 blocks <br />of 6outh Chapin Street. <br />STREET SIGNS APPROVED <br />Upon the recommendation of Clem F. Hazinski, Traffic Engineer, the Board <br />approved the following signs: <br />30 MPH speed limit sign -- on the southwest corner of Phillipa and <br />Ford. Sign to face west. <br />30 MPH speed limit sign -- on the northeast corner of Pulaski and <br />Ford. Sign to face east. <br />STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORTS <br />Street light outage reports from July 24, to August 2, 1968, were filed. <br />
