347 <br />July 22, 1968. <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works & Safety convened at 10:00 <br />A.M. on July 22, 1968, with all members present. The minutes of the <br />previous meeting were reviewed and approved. <br />RETIREMENT FROM FIRE DEPARTMENT - CLIFTON M. COPELAND <br />Upon recommendation of`Fire Chief Cecil McHenry, the Board, upon motion made, <br />seconded and carried, approved the application and declaration for retire- <br />ment of Clifton M. Copeland, effective August 18, 1968, having been appointed <br />on August 16, 1968, and having completed 22 years of service. <br />REQUEST FOR MILITARY LEAVE - POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />The following requests for military leave were submitted by Chief of Police <br />Thomas McNaughton and, upon motion made, seconded and carried, were approved <br />by the Board: <br />Sgt. Edward Friend - <br />for duty at Camp McCoy, <br />Wisc. - <br />8/3/68 to 8/17/68 <br />Officer J.,Brassell - <br />for duty at Camp McCoy, <br />Wisc.,- <br />8/3/68 to 8/17/68 <br />REQUEST FOR MILITARY LEAVE <br />- FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />U <br />Request for military leave <br />of Charles J. Steele, <br />submitted <br />by Fire Chief <br />Cecil McHenry, from July 27, <br />1968 through August <br />10, 1968, <br />upon motion made, <br />seconded and carried, was <br />approved by the Board. <br />REQUEST FOR MILITARY LEAVE <br />- TRAFFIC ENGINEERING <br />The request of Ralph Wadzinski, Assistant Director of Traffic Engineering, <br />for military leave to attend summer training from July 28, 1968 until <br />August 11, 1968, was, upon motion made, seconded and carried, approved by <br />the Board. <br />RESIGNATION FROM POLICE DEPARTMENT - EDWIN C. BYRD <br />The request of Edwin C. Byrd to resign from the Police Department, effective <br />July 31, 1968, in order to accept employment with the Federal Government, <br />upon motion made, seconded and carried, was approved,,byrthe Board. <br />FOUR WAY STOP SIGN - JACKSON AND YORK ROADS <br />Upon the recommendation of the Traffic Engineering Department, upon motion <br />made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the installation of a four-way <br />stop at the intersection of Jackson and York Roads, presently controlled by <br />stop signs on York Road only. <br />STREET SIGNS APPROVED <br />Upon recommendation of the Traffic Engineering Department, upon motion made, <br />seconded and carried, the Board approved the installation of the following <br />street signs: <br />The sign "NO PEDESTRIANS OR BIKES ALLOWED" - as necessary on Chapin <br />Street at LaSalle; on Chapin at Colfax; on Washington and Chapin; on <br />Chapin at Scott; on Chapin at Oak Street; and on Chapin at Lincolnway West. <br />The sign "STOP" - Irvington on Rush; on Rush at Fairview; on Rush at <br />Victoria; and on Rush at Eckman. <br />STREET LIGHTS APPROVED <br />Upon the recommendation of`the Traffic Engineering Department, the installation <br />of the following street lights, on motion made, seconded and carried, was approved <br />by the Board: <br />
