July 15, 1968. <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 10:00 <br />A.M. on July 15, 1968, with all members present. The minutes of the previous <br />meeting were reviewed and approved. <br />APPOINTMENT TO FiRE DEPARTMENT - LARRY RICHARD ERNSBERGER <br />Upon the recommendation of Chief Cecil McHenry and due investigation by <br />the Board, the Board approved the appointment to the South Bend Fire Department <br />of Larry Richard Ernsbbrggr 1511 Hilltop Drive, South Bend, Indiana, as of <br />August 1, 1968. <br />RETIREMENT FROM FIRE DEPARTMENT - CASIMER WALTER RZEPKA <br />Upon the recommendation of Fire Chief Cecil McHenry, the Board accepted and <br />approved the application and declaration for retirement of Casimer Walter <br />Rzepka, effective July 27, 1968, having been appointed on July 4, 1948, and <br />having completed 20 years of service. <br />REQUEST FOR TRANSFER OF FUNDS - FIRE DEPARTMENT - $2700.00 <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the <br />request of Fire Chief McHenry for the transfer of $1100.00 from Account Q-11 <br />(salaries) to Account Q-221 (electric services), and to transfer $1600.00 <br />V from Account Q-i1 (salaries) to Account Q-222 (gas service). The reason <br />for -the request for additional funds for electrical services being that <br />Station #2 is running considerably higher than estimated, and because <br />bills for Stations #4 and #7 were paid after the first of the year which <br />had not been included in the,1968 budget. <br />The reason for requesting additional funds for gas service being that bills <br />were paid after the first of the year for Stations #4 and #7 not included in <br />the 1968 budget and because Station #2 is running higher than estimated. <br />The matter was referred to the City Attorney for the preparation of Ordinance <br />for the consideration of the Common Council. <br />REQUEST OF POLICE DEPARTMENT TO INSTALL ADDITIONAL HOLD -UP AND BURGLARY ALARMS <br />The request of Police Chief McNaughton for permission to have three additional <br />panels installed in the radio communications center for the use of any alarm <br />company wishing to use them, at thbir own expense with no cost -to the City, <br />upon motion made, seconded and carried, was approved by the Board. Such <br />alarms shall be Underwriter approved and conform to th@Panel, and the in- <br />stalling company shall give local 24 hour, 7 day service. <br />APPOINTMENT TO POLICE DEPARTMENT - DENNIS JAN BAILEY <br />After due investigation and upon the recommendation -:of Chief of Police Thomas <br />McNaughton, the Board approved the appointment of Dennis Jan Bailey to the <br />South Bebd Police Department, effective July 16, 1968. <br />APPOINTMENTS AS SPECIAL POLICE OFFICERS ` <br />Upon the recommendation of Chief of Police Thomas McNaughton, the Board <br />approved the appointment as special police officers as follows: <br />Thomas P. Gipson, Buchanan, Michigan - employed by Bendix Corporation - <br />William Poznanski, 2126 Baldwin Drive, Niles, Michigan, - Employed by Bendix. <br />Ralph H. Radecki, 3001 Western Ave., South Bend, Indiana - Employed by Bendix. <br />Russell Stines, 52036 Santa Monica Dr., South Bend, Indiana - employed by Bendix. <br />STREET SIGNS APPROVED <br />Upon the recommendation of the Traffic Engineer, the installation of the following <br />street signs was approved by the Board: <br />Four NO PARKING THiS SIDE OF STREET signs and posts on the south side <br />of Oak Street, starting east of Cushing to end of yellow 50 ft. south <br />of Chapin. <br />YIELD sign on the S.E. corner of Colfax and Chapin. <br />YIELD signs on Lincolnway at innerbelt NorthWest corner. <br />
