July 1, 1968. <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 10:00 <br />A.M., on July 1, 1968, with all members present. The minutes of the previous <br />meeting were reviewed and approved. <br />APPLICATION FOR APPOINTMENT TO FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />Application of David Michael Daren for appointment to the Fire Department was <br />filed and referred to the Personnel Department for processing. <br />NORTHWEST INNER BELT EXTENSION NAMED - "CHAPtN" STREET <br />The Board approved the suggestion of Traffic Engineer Clem F. Hazinski <br />that the newly constructed inner belt route between the intersections of <br />Washington and Chapin and the intersection with Lincolnway barest, since <br />this route to the north, from Washington Street, is a continuation of <br />Chapin Street, be named ''CHAPIN STREET." <br />SICK LEAVE EXTENSION - ANTHONY IGAZ - F-D:WARD I FR.IE.ND <br />Recommendation of Chief of Police Thomas M cNaughton for additional 30 days <br />extension of sick leave for officer Anthony G. Igaz and Edgard I. Friond was approved <br />by the Board. <br />REMOVAL OF FLASHER SIGNALS - BRONSON AND LINCOLNWAY EAST <br />The Board approved the recommendation of Clem F. Hazinski, Traffic Director, <br />for the removal of flasher signals at Bronson and Lincolnway East, and that <br />these approaches be controlled by stop signs. Mr. Hazinski states that <br />speed studies have been made at these approaches and that these studies <br />indicate flasher signals at these approaches are ineffective. <br />PETITION FOR STREET LIGHT IMPROVEMENT IN THE AREA OF BIRDSELL, WILBER, <br />FASSNACHT, SIBLEY, FLORENCE AND LONGLEY STREETS___ <br />Walter Szymkowiak _ <br />Second District Councilman/presented to the Board a petition, bearing 128 <br />signatures, requesting street light improvement in the area of Birdsell, <br />Wilber, Fassnacht, Sibley, Florence and Longley Streets. <br />Mr. Taylor, City Engineer stated that a study has been made of the lighting <br />in this area; that some°additional lighting has been recommended; and <br />further stating that the ineffectiveness of some lights is causepby the <br />number of trees in this area; and suggesting that some improvement could <br />be made by trimming some of the trees. The matter was referred to Mr. <br />Taylor in connection with the study being made by the Engineering Depart- <br />meht. <br />STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORTS for the period 6/20/68 to 6/28/68 were filed. <br />There being no further business to come be <br />adjourned at 12:10 P.M. i <br />Attest: <br />Clerk <br />e Board, the meeting <br />Arthur W.
