May 20, 1968. <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety was held at 10:00 A.M. on <br />May 20, 1968, with James A. Bickel and Lloyd S. Taylor present, The minutes of <br />the last meeting were reviewed and approved. In the absence of Mr. Frisk, Mr. Taylor <br />acted as.chairman. <br />APPLICATIONS FOR APPOINTMENT TO POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />The application of Larry Richard Ernsberger for appointment to the South Bend <br />Police Department was filed and referred to the Personnel Department for <br />processing. <br />APPLICATIONS FOR APPOINTEAE.NT TO FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />The applications for appointment to the Fire Department of Camiel De Meulenaere and <br />Gregory Fredrick Conery were filed and referred to the Personnel Department <br />for processing. <br />APPLICATIONS FOR APPOINTMENT AS SPECIAL POLICE OFFICERS APPROVED <br />Upon the recommendation of Chief of Police Thomas McNaughton, the Board <br />approved the appointment of the following special police officers <br />Victor J. Derdak - 228 E. Klinger Street, South Bend, Indiana, employed <br />by South Bend Community School' Corporation <br />Karl Richard Weis- 918 Weber Square East, South Bend, Indiana, employed <br />by Weis Auto Body Shop, Inc. <br />APPOINTMENTS TO FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />Upon the recommendation of Fire Chief Cecil McHenry and due investigations <br />by the Board, the following appointments to the Fire Department were made, effect- <br />ive 5/21/68: <br />Robert E. Maciejewski <br />John P. Bikowski <br />Eugene Rose <br />Steve Danielowicz III <br />Donald P. Corban <br />John F. Platz <br />Donald R. Lanchsweerdt <br />and the acceptance of the above appointees by the Firemen's Pension Fund is <br />herewith filed with the Board of Safety effective 5/21/68. <br />IidSTALLATION OF STREET SIGNS APPROVED <br />Upon the recommendation of Clem Hazinski, Traffic Engineer, the installation <br />of the following signs was approved by the Board: <br />Installation of three ONE HOUR parking signs and posts at 1406 Franklin Ct. <br />Installation of one NO PARKING sign with arrows on the north side of the <br />alley next door to 1412 S. Michigan Street. <br />REQUEST OF FIREMEN TO ATTEND SEMINAR AT EVANSVILLE, INDIANA JUNE 3, 4 and:5, 1968 <br />The request of firemen Joe Pajakowski, William Schmidt and Robert DeGroff to <br />attend a Legislative Convention in Evansville, Indiana, on June 3, 4 and 5, 1968, <br />with the approval of Fire Chief McHenry, was approved by the Board. <br />REQUEST TO TRANSFER FUNDS- POLICE DEPARTMENT ($1000.00) <br />The request of Chief of Police Thomas McNaughton for the transfer of funds from <br />Account P-11 (services personal) to Account P-213 (travel) due to the depletion <br />of travel funds and the desire to again this year send four men to the Homicide <br />Investigation School in Cincinnati, was approved by the Board. The request was <br />referred to the City Attorney for the preparation of an ordinance for presentation <br />to the Common Council at its next meeting. <br />1 <br />1 <br />
