April 15, 1968. <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Work s and Safety convened at 10:00 <br />A.M. on April 15, 1968, with all members present. The minutes of the <br />previous meeting were reviewed and approved. <br />REQUEST FOR TRANSFER OF FUNDS - FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />Fire Chief McHenry requests the transfer of $2000.00 from Account Q-11 <br />(services - personal) to Account Q-262 (medical), for the reason that two <br />men are now'in the hospital and funds in the medical account are low. <br />The request, upon motion made, seconded and carried, was granted, and the <br />matter was referred to the City Attorney for the preparation of an ordinance <br />for presentation to the Common Council at its next meeting. <br />APPLICATION FOR RETIREMENT - FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />The following applications for retirement were submitted by Chief McHenry: <br />Steve J. Horvath - appointed 1/1/45. Retirement date 4/18/68. <br />having served 23 years and 32 months. <br />cS3 <br />Ted Zmudzinski - appointed 3/1/47. Retirement date 5/3/68. <br />Having served 21 years and 2 months. <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, said applications for retirement <br />were accepted and approved by the Board. <br />FIREMEN'S PENSION FUND - MEMBERSHIP - DZIALA KIEWICZ <br />Fire Chief McHenry, President of the South Bend Firemen's Pension Board <br />reports Alan John Dzialakiewicz was accepted for membership in the Firemen's <br />Pension Fund 4/12/68, with such membership to coincide with applicant's <br />appointment to the Fire Department, subject to the approval of the Board. <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved said application <br />and membership. <br />APPLICATION FOR APPOINTMENT TO FIRE DEPARTMENT - DARLIES LEE JONES <br />The application for appointment to the Fire Department by Darlies Lee Jones <br />was filed and referred to the Personnel Director for processing. <br />RESIGNATION FROM POLICE DEPARTMENT - JEROME A. FLORKOWSKI <br />The resignation from the Police Department by Officer Jerome A. Florkowski (#251) <br />as of 4/9/68 was presented by Chief McNaughton and, upon motion made, <br />seconded and carried, was approved by the Board. <br />APPLICATIONS FOR APPOINTMENT AS SPECIAL POLICE OFFICERS <br />The following applications for appointment as special police officers in and <br />for the City of South Bend were approved by the Board: <br />William Tretheway - 1006 Belleview, South Bend, Indiana <br />Kenneth Tindall - 1003 Ontario, Niles, Michigan <br />Francis Waters - 56435 Westlea Drive, South Bend, Indiana <br />Said above three appointments to terminate upon the termination <br />of the employment with St. Joseph Hospital, or by the action <br />of the Chief of Police, or of this Board. <br />John E. Crawford - 3717 St. Johns Way, South Bend, Indiana. <br />said appointment of John E. Crawford being for the purpose of "store <br />protection" and subject to termination by action of the Chief of Police <br />or this Board, or upon the termination of such "store protection" <br />activity. And said John E. Crawford files bond with the Board in the <br />sum of $1000.00 commencing 4/11/68 for one year by Henry Getz Ins. Agcy. <br />
