325 <br />April 8, 1968. <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and -:Safety convened at 10:00 <br />A.M., with all members present. The minutes of the previous meeting were <br />reviewed and approved. <br />APPLICATIONS - FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />The following applications for appointment to the Fire Department were filed <br />and referred to the Personnel Department for processing: Donald Patrick <br />Corban, Larry Frank Lekarczyk, and Charles James Poynter. <br />REQUEST -:POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />The request of Chief McNaughton for Chief McNaughton and Fire Chief McHenry <br />to drive mechanical #30 to Peoria, Illinois, was approved. <br />REQUEST - POLICE DEPARTMENT - SGT. EDWARD I. FRIEND <br />Request by Sgt. Edward I. Friend for leave to attend the Annual Unit Training <br />with the United States Army Reserves, from 8/3/68 through 8/17/68, was <br />approved by the Board., <br />U- RETIREMENT FROM POLICE DEPARTMENT - EDWARD M. HANYZEWSKI <br />00 Declaration for retirement from the Police Department by Edward M. Hanyzewski, <br />having been appointed 10/6/68 and having served more than 20 years, and <br />being approved by Chief of Police Thomas McNaughton 4/l/68, was accepted and <br />approved by the Board. <br />REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL SICK LEAVE - POLICE DEPARTMENT - WM. STOYNOFF <br />Chief McNaughton requests additional sick leave of 30 days on behalf of <br />Officer William Stoynoff, from April 8, 1968. On motion made, seconded and <br />carried, the request was granted. Lloyd S. Taylor abstained from voting. <br />COMMUNICATION FROM MARY HESIBEN AND VIRGINIA WOLFORD, REPRESENTING <br />SCHOOL CROSSING GUARDS OF THE POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />Letter concerning request for increase in wages for 1969 of $200.00 per year <br />for school crossing guards, South Bend Police Department, by Mary Hesiben <br />and Virginia Wolford, was read and ordered filed. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT - VICE DETAIL REPORT <br />Report of Det. Sgt. Robert Riddle of the South Bend Vice Detail, concerning <br />prostitution and arrests was reviewed and filed. <br />PETITION FOR STREET LIGHT - 1400 BLOCK E. SORIN STREET <br />The petition of J. L. White and 13 others under date of 4/2/68 for a street <br />light to be installed in the 1400 block of East Sorin Street was filed and <br />referred to the Engineering Department for study and recommendation. <br />STREETS LIGHTS - APPROVED <br />Upon the recommendation of the Engineering Department, the following street:: <br />lights were approved. <br />St. Stanislaus Church - on Florence Street between Brookfield and Johnson. <br />Recommendation of engineering department for the installation of 4000 Lumen, <br />OH, W.P. street light. Cost to the city @ $3.15 per month or $37.80 per yr. <br />Greenlawn between Jefferson and the G.T.W. tracks - Recommendation of <br />engineering department for the installation of two 4000 L inc street <br />lights on Greenlawn, one at Wayne and one at Sunnymede. Cost to the city <br />@ $3.15 per unit, or $6.30 per month, or $75.60 per year. <br />PETITION FOR STREET LIGHT - DENIED <br />The request of Indiana & Michigan Electric Company for replacement of the <br />boulevard light on Foster and St. Vincent was denied. <br />
