March 18, 1968. <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 10:00 A.M. <br />on March 18, 1968. The minutes of the previous meeting were reviewed and approved. <br />PROMOTIONS - POLICE ".DEPARTMENT <br />The recommendations of Police Chief McNaughton for the following promotions: <br />Sergeant Frank Arsenault to Captain of the Juvenile Bureau, <br />Robert Bejma to the'rank of Sergeant, and <br />Joseph Radecki to the rank of Sergeant, <br />upon motion duly made, seconded and carried were approved effective as of <br />March 16, 1968. <br />PROMOTIONS - FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />The recommendation of Fire Chief McHenry for the promotion of`Lieutenant <br />William Schmidt and for the promotion of Private Carl Zwierzynski were con- <br />sidered, and, upon motion duly made, seconded and unanimously carried, <br />promotions as follows were approved by the Board: <br />L<beutenant William Schmidt to the rank of Captain, and <br />Private Carl Zwierzynski to the rank of Lieutenant, <br />such promotions to be effective as of March 16, 1968. <br />APPOINTMENTS - POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />After due investigation and upon the recommendation of Chief of Police <br />McNaughton, the following appointments to the South Bend Police Department <br />were made, effective as of March 18, 1968: <br />Edwin Carrol Byrd - 288 S. Francis Street, South Bendir,t;ndiana <br />and, effective as of March 16, 1968: <br />James Arthur Grummell - 1146 Cleveland Avenue, South Bend, Indiana <br />Woodrow Turner Miller - 1113 W. Grace Street, South Bend, Indiana <br />Ernest Duane Nybo - 55555 Grandview Avenue, South Bend, Indiana <br />Gerald Anthony Weger - 1022 West Rose Street, South Bend, Indiana <br />Thomas Dutrieux - 7352 N. Wilber Street, South Bend, Indiana <br />REQUESTS FOR STREET LIGHTS <br />The following requests for street lights were filed and referred to the <br />Traffic Engineer: <br />1. Hildreth Street on the existing pole at the alley, between Oakland <br />and Clover Streets, on the petition of John L. Overholt and six others <br />dated 2/28/68. <br />2. Sylvan Glen Street and Winding Wood Drive - on the petition oifPearl <br />Phillip and 15 others, under date of March 12, 1968. <br />3. Main and Navarre - Request of Memorial Hospital dated March 13, 1968. <br />4. Court Street, midway"between Navarre and Bartlett - Request of Mem <br />5. 808 Cushing , mid block on alley - on the petition of Carl D. Tuveson <br />and 13 others, dated 3/15/68. <br />REQUEST FOR STREET LIGHT DENIED - REAR OF 615 E. BROADWAY <br />Alley intersection in rear of 615 E. Broadway, on the petition of Mrs. Kelsey Critton <br />2/5/68 has been investigated and traffic engineer, under da to of 3/11/68, <br />reports as follows: <br />"An investigation made by this Department for a street light�irostallation <br />at -An alley intersection revealed that both alleys seemed uninhabited. <br />It has been the practice of the Board not to install street lights in <br />uninhabited alleys or courts." <br />Request is therefore denied, and the Clerk is ordered to so advise the petitioner. <br />
