October 16, 1967 <br />The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety was called to order <br />at 10:00 A. M. with all members present. The minutes of the previous meeting were <br />read and approved. <br />TWELVE NEW APPOINTMENTS MADE FOR POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />The Chief of Police, Thomas H. McNaughton, having this date submitted to the Board <br />of Public Works and Safety the following names: Keith Fry, John W. Forslund, <br />Jimmy Lee Emmons, Hiram Bonds, Larry Charles Blume, Billy Dee Wells, Dean Allen <br />Tinkel, Vinson Gene Smith, Robert R. Schultz, Jr., Frank Mattei, Thomas Kellogg <br />and Thomas L. Gargis, and recommended to the South Bend Police Department all <br />of said candidates and they having been said to be eligible and are now by <br />resolution unanimously approved by the Board to be appointed as members of the <br />South Bend Police Department effective October 16, 1967. <br />RETIREMENT OF MATTHEW BARCZYKOV'ISKI <br />Officer Matthews Barczykowski having this date submitted his retirement from the <br />South Bend Police Department for the reason that he has completed twenty years of <br />service on the department, the same is hereby unanimously apprptred by the Board <br />by resolution and he is hereby retired effective October 16, 1967 and eligible <br />to all pension rights as per statute of the State of Indiana. <br />SPECIAL POLICE OFFICER APPLICATIONS <br />Special police applications for John -Kent Stephenson and Donald John Hicks were <br />approved by the Board to be special police for St. Joseph HoIl. <br />RE VEST FOR TRANSFER OF FUNDS FOR FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />Fire Chief Cecil McHenry, requested a transfer of funds from Q-11, Services <br />I?ei�oonilto Q 262-Medical in the amount of $2,500.00. <br />The request was referred to the controllers office to draw up the necessary <br />ordinance. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT MONTHLY REPORT <br />The police department report for the month of September was filed by the Board. <br />REPORT OF CIVIL DISORDER FILED WITH THE BOARD <br />Pursuant to the instruction of the Mayor of the City of South Bend, the Board of <br />Public Works and Safety did on October 16, 1967 submit a report to Mayor Allen <br />of the recent public hearings of the Civil disturbances July 2�, 26 and <br />27, and a copy of said report is to be filed with the Board. <br />There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned. <br />CHAIRMiAN <br />
