July 31, 1967 <br />The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety was called to <br />order with members Lloyd Taylor and James A. Bickel in attendance. The minutes <br />of the previous meeting were read and approved. <br />REQUEST OF CAPTAIN LOREN BUSSERT <br />A request was received from Captain Loren Bussert for permission to accept the Federal <br />Fellowship awarded him through the Law Enforcement Assixtance AcIr of 1965. This <br />Fellowship will result in a Masterts Degree in Police Administration and will re- <br />quire attendance at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice. in New York City <br />for the period of one year, from September 1, 1967 through August 31, 1968. <br />Captain Bussert also requested that he might be demoted from his present rank <br />of Captain to the rank of Patrolman while attending this school. <br />The Board approved the requests, and the Secretary was instructed to write a <br />letter of Congratulations from the Board to Captain Bussert. <br />REQUEST FRCM CHIEF MCHENRY - CAPTAIN HESS AND LT CARL LEDERER TO ATTEND CONF_ <br />Fire Chief Cecil McHenry appeared before the Board and requested permission for <br />ap Captain Glenn Hess and,Lt. Carl Lederer to attend the Indiana Firemen's <br />Association Conference on August 4th in Indianapolis. The request was approved <br />V by the Board. <br />SIGN CHANGE - TRAFFIC DIRECTOR - CLEM HAZINSKI <br />Mr. Clem Hazinski, Traffic Director, asked that the following be added to the <br />minutes: <br />Change the Yield Sign to a Stop sign at the Northwest corner of <br />Wh.iteoak and Corby. <br />,SPECIAL POLICE BOND <br />Special Police bonds were approved for Chester Spychalski and Boyd Jimerson for <br />the South Bend Tribune. <br />APPLICATIONS - POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />Police Department Applications were filed .-. from John Joseph Brassell, Eldon <br />Herbert Haden, James Silas Tahor and Hiram A.
