June 5, 1967 <br />The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety was called to order with <br />members Robert j. DuComb and James A. Bickel present. The minutes of the previous <br />meeting were read and approved. <br />PROMOTION OF THOMAS H. MCNAUGHT.ON - POLLICE CHIEF <br />By unanimous resolution of the Board of Public Works and Safety, Thomas H. McNaughton, <br />presently assistant Chief of th& South Bend Police Department and acting Chief, is <br />hereby promoted to the office of the Chief of the Police Department due to the <br />vacancy caused by the retirement of Irvin Hampton, said appointment to be effective <br />June 3, 1967. <br />PRCMOTION.- PATROLMAN RUDOLPH HORVATH <br />Chief Thomas McNaughton appeared before the Board this date and recommended to the <br />Board of Public Works and Safety the promotion of Patrolman Rudolph Horvath of the <br />Police Department to the rank of Sergeant. The Board recommends unanimously the <br />promotion and Officer Horvath is hereby appointed to the rank of Sergeant effective <br />June 16, 1967. <br />TRANSFER OF FUNDS - POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />Chief Thomas McNaughton appeared before the Board and asked for a transfer of funds <br />and the Board approving hereby made the following Resolutioil: <br />RESOLUTION # S.: Unanimously passed by the Board, the sum of $3,834.00 is hereby <br />transferred from Account P-722 (Motor Equipment) in the following manner: <br />$2434-00 of said sum is ordered transferred to Account P-725 (Office Equipment) <br />and $1400.00 is ordered transferred to P-7 26 (Other Equipment) all in the <br />general fund. <br />SPECIAL POLICEOFFICER APPROVAL OF RICHARD JOSEPH DUNLAP <br />A special police officer application was approved for Richard Joseph Dunlap. <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT - WILLIAM T. SCHMIDT TO TEACH SCHOOL <br />Fire Chief McHenry appeared before the Board'and requested permission for <br />Lieutenant William T. Schmidt to be in Muskegon, Michigan, June_-15, 16 and 17 <br />to teach Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting at the Norton Fire Department in <br />Muskegon. <br />The Board approved the request. <br />CCdVMUNICATION FROM DONALD MYERS <br />Another communication was received from Donald Myers from the Headquarters of <br />Communications systems Radio Patrol. The letter was referred to Fire Chief <br />McHenry for a report. <br />STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORTS <br />The street light outage reports for the week were approved and ordered filed by <br />the Board. <br />There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned. <br />CHAIRMAN <br />• RIC D J.
