6 <br />May 22, 1967 <br />The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety was called to order at <br />10:00 A. M. will all members present. The minutes of the previous meeting were <br />read and approved. <br />REQUEST: TRANSFER OF FURDS -.POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />Mr. Thomas H. McNaughton, Acting police chief requested a transfer of funds in the amount <br />of $389.00 from P-11 Services personal to P-265 Contractual Services. The Board <br />approved the transfer but a copy was given to Mr. Bickel to prepare the ordinance. <br />REQUEST -_LARKING METER REMOVAL <br />In order to expedite the flow of traffic, relieve congestion and eliminate certain <br />hazards, it is recommended that parking meters be removed at the following locations: <br />1. the west side of the 100 block South Lafayette, meters No. 1 through 29. <br />2. The east side of the 100 block South Lafayette, meters 13 and 11 <br />3. The south side of the 200 block of West jefferson, meter 12 and 14. <br />It is further recommended that these locations be posted with signs " No Parking or <br />Stopping anytime. <br />Mr. DuComb dictated a letter to the Chief of Police in regard to the parking in <br />the vicinity of -the new City County Bldg, and dictated the following minutes in <br />regard to the request: <br />The Traffic Engineers Department having this date submitted to the Board of Public <br />Works and Safety thdir recp4pendation for the removal of several parking meters and <br />it being recommended that the parking meters on the west side of the 100.block of <br />South Lafayette Street, numbers being one through 29 being removed and it having <br />been called to the attention of the Board that the Social Security office is <br />located in that block, said request is granted as presented subject to the following <br />modification: <br />The removal of #1 through #29 is denied by the West Bide of the 100 block of <br />Lafayette Street and shall be posted with signs designating it as a Mo. Parking Zone <br />from 6 A. M. to 9 A. M. and from 3 P. M. to 6 P. M. , daily except Sundays., <br />In all other details, said recommendation is approved, and all is unanimously approved <br />by the Board of Public Works and Safety. <br />APPLICATION: POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />The application of Theodore C. Najdek, Jr. of 1127 No. Meade Street was s <br />bordered filed by the Board. <br />REQUUST: SOUTH BEND FIRE DEPARTMENT PLACING OF POP MACHINE AND CIGARET CUPBOARD <br />Mire Chief Cecil McHenry asked the Boardts permission to place a pop machine and a <br />cigaret cupboard in the municipal services Building in Room 105. Any monies made on <br />the concessions would be put in a house fund which is used for the purchase of newspapers, <br />shoe polish, dishes and cooking ware. <br />The request will be taken under advisement and a decision made at a later date. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />The monthly report for April 1967 for the police Department was filed by the Board. <br />SPECIAL POLICE OFFICERS• REMOVAL AND ADDITION <br />A letter was received from E. 0. Prange, Director of Health, Safety and Security at <br />Bendix, and asked that the names of Perry L. Elkins and Arthur W. Ferm be removed <br />from the Special Police Officer lists as they are deceased. <br />
