January 3, 1967 The regular meeting of the .Board of Public Works and Safety was called to order at 10:00 A. M. by James A. Bickel, due to the absence of Robert J. DuComb. Mr Lloyd Taylor also attended. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. ELECTION OF CHAIRMAN Mr. Robert J. DuComb was unanimously elected as chairman for the year 1967. PRCMOTIONS• JERa E PERKINS AND WILLIAM BUSH Chief Irvin Hampton appeared before the Board and presented the following promotion which were approved by the Board: Effective January 16, 1967, Captain J. Jerome Perkins will be promoted to the rank of Detective Inspector, and Sergeant William Bush promoted to the rank of Captain and will assume command of the second detail petrol division. RETIREMENT --POLICE DEPARTMENT - FLOYD ZELLERS An application for retirement from the South Bend Police Department was received from Floyd Zellers. He was appointed December 31, 1936 and asks that his retirement date be made effective January 16; 1967, the -end of this terminal leave period. The application was approved by the Board. RETIREMENT - POLICE DEPARTMENT - JOE HORVATH An application for retirement from the South Bend Police Department was received from Joseph Horvath, who was appointed on December 9th, 1945. He asks that his retirement date be effective 1/16/67, the end of his terminal leave period. The application was approved by the Board. RETIREMENT - POLICE DEPARTMENT - ROGER BARTS An application for retirment from the South Bend Police Department was received from Roger Barts, who was appointed on September 21, 1946 and asks that his retirement date be effective January 1st, 1967 with his terminal leave after that date. The application was approved by the Board. STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORTS The street light outage reports were approved and ordered filed by the Board.
