22 <br />November 21, 1966 <br />The regular session of the Board of Public Works and Safety was called to <br />order with all members present. The minutes of the previous meeting were <br />read and approved. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT MONTHLY REPORT <br />The monthly report for the month of October was approved by the Board and <br />ordered filed. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT APPROVAL FOR SCHOOL FOR SGT. MCMICHAEL: <br />Chief Hampton appeared and asked for permission for Sgt. Harold McMichael <br />to attend shhool beginning January 23, 1967 at the Traffic Institute of <br />Northwestern University, namely the school for Ahalysis and Administrative <br />Use of Police'Traffic Data. <br />This training is essential for effective use of accident experience. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT: PRCUOTION OF OFFICER ROBERT BIBER AND CORPORAZ DON CQRNELIS <br />The South Bend Chief of Police, Irvin C. Hampton, having this date recommended <br />to the Board of Public Works and Safety the promotion: of Officer Robert Biber <br />to Sergeant, and the promotion of Corporal Don Cornelis to Sergeant of the <br />Police Department, said Police officers are hereby promoted effective this <br />date. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT: EXTENSION OF SICK LEAVE FOR EDMUND NIESPODZIANY <br />Chief Hampton appeared before the Board with a recommendation of an extension <br />of a sick leave for Sergeant Edmund Niespodziany. He has had a leave of <br />25 days but will need an extension. Mr. Bickel suggested that allowances <br />should be made as he no doubt acquired this illness on the job. <br />A suggestion was made that an extension of thirty days be allowed. <br />Edmund Niespodziany having been confined to the St. Joseph Hospital and having <br />been on sick leave for a total of twenty-five days, it is hereby unanimously <br />approved by the Board of Public Works that a sick leave be extended for a <br />total of thirty day additional from the expiration of the present sick leave. <br />SPECIAL POLICE= BETTY JO LOCKHART. <br />Betty Jo Lockhartwas appointed as a Special Police Officer for the City of <br />South Bend. <br />STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORT <br />The Street Light Outage report for the week was approved and ordered filed. <br />There being no further business, theueeting was adjourned. <br />v <br />CHAIRMAN <br />ATTEST: 1TICHVf J.WK, <br />
