216 <br />October 24, 1966 <br />The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety was called to order <br />withallmembers present. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and <br />approved. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT MONTHLY REPORT <br />The regular monthly report from the police department for the month of September <br />was approved and ordered filed by the Board. <br />SPECIAL POLICE OFFICER BOND <br />A special police officer bond for Robert M. Smith was approved and ordered filed <br />by the Board. <br />NEW FIREMAN:_APPOINTIMTS <br />The Chief of the Fire Department, Cecil McHenry having this date recommended <br />to the Board of Public Works and Safety the two following men for appointment, <br />Frank Ball.atore of 2018 Elwood Avenue, South Bend, and Richard C. Lentz, 1336 <br />E. Fox Street, South Bend, Indiana, and the Board having been advised on the <br />premises that they have passed all physical requirements for appointment to <br />the Fire Department and have been approved by the Pension Board, the Board does <br />now appoint Frank Ballatore and Richard C. Lentz to the Fire Department <br />effective November 1, 1966, subject to the probationary period as provided by <br />law. <br />STREET LIGHT OUTA GE REPORTS <br />The Street light outage reports for the week were approved and ordered filed <br />by the Board. <br />ABAMONING OF BANK ALARM SYSTEMS <br />Mr.. -Gene Radecki informed the Board that upon the completion of the new Central <br />Services the alamm systems at the St. Joseph Bank and Trust, the First Federal <br />Savings and Loan, The Branch banks of the First Bank at 911 So. Michigan St., <br />902 26th St, and 1505 Lincoln Way West, the American Trust Co. and the Branch <br />Bank of the American Trust Co will have to be notified that ehir bank alarm systems <br />that are connected directly to the Police Department will have to be aband€ded, <br />the date being December 1, 1966. <br />The Secretary was instruc-ted to notify these banks about this plan. <br />STREET LIGHT FOR PARKWOOD LANE APPROVED <br />Mr. Ralph Wadzinski has informed the Board that a street light petition for <br />Parkwood Lane be approved but held up until funds can be appropriated. <br />It is recommended that a 3-4,000 Lumen street light be located. Being a curving <br />rolling.street more than one light at mid block -is necessary to provided the <br />light. The cost to the city of 3-4000 Lumen @ $3.15 per wont% for a year is <br />$113.40. <br />The Secretary was instructed to notify the petitioners of this decision' <br />STREET LIGHT AT 612 NO, WALNUT STREET DENTED <br />Mr. Ralph Wadzinski has informed the Board that a street light petition for <br />612 No. Walnut street mast be denied. The City's present policy is not to <br />light alleys unless inhabited. There are no residences in this alley, <br />ALLEY LIGHT PETITION AT 728 FAIRVIEW DENIED <br />MR. RALPH WADZINSKI, Assistant Traffic Director has informed the Board that <br />a:�Petition for an alley light petition behind 728 Fairview be denied as there are <br />no residences that face the alley itself, and due to the city police of not lighting <br />uninhabited alleys, at the present time. <br />It has been suggested that "A Nite Guard" be used. The.Secretary was instructed <br />to inform the petitioners of this denial and suggestion. <br />STREET LIGHT PETITION AT 712 WEST LASALLE STREET DENTED <br />
