156 <br />February 21, 1966 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, <br />February 21, 1966 at 10:00 A.M. Messrs. Robert J. DuComb and James <br />A. Bickel were present. Minutes of the last regularmeeting were <br />read and approved. Vouchers were approved and ordered paid to the <br />various suppliers. <br />PERMISSION TO ADVERTISE: FIRE DEPARTMENT & POLICE DEPARTMENT UNIFORMS <br />Permission was granted to the Fire Department and the Police Department <br />to advertise for uniforms and uniform equipment. Sealed bids will <br />be opened and considered on March 7, 1966 at 10:00 A.M. <br />APPOINTMENT: POLICE DEPARTMENT ( STEPBEN M. SWARD i <br />Stephen M. Sward having filed his application for appointment to <br />the South Bend Police Department arid'-the"Ch of :'of the Police Department, <br />Irvin C. Ha*ton, having informed the Board that the applicant has. <br />qualified by physical and mental examinations and in all other matters <br />is a fit and proper person to be appointed to the Police Department, <br />said Stephen M. Sward is hereby appointed as a member of the Police <br />Department, effective February 14, 1966, subject to the usual <br />probationary rules. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT: SUB -STANDARD DIVISION ( AWARD BID ) <br />With reference to property located at 616 Fellows Street, after <br />study of the bids received, it was the decision of the Board to <br />award the bid to A & J Demolition with the understanding that it <br />the demolition of this structure was not accomplished within the <br />specified time for such demolition, A & J Demolition would forfeit <br />any rights to further consideration for bid awards from the City of <br />South Bend. <br />SUB -STANDARD DIVISION ( HEARINGS )- ADVERTISE FOR DEMOLITION BIDS <br />Mr. Liszewski informed the Board that property located at 2207 Merry <br />Street, owned by Raebhel Haithkox, c/o Lambie Nursing Home, is in <br />very bad condition. Mrs. Lambie appeared before the Board to advise <br />that the owner could not appear and also informed the Board that <br />this property was now with the Welfare Department. <br />Mr. Liszewski requested permission to advertise for bids for demolition. <br />Property is presently posted. <br />Permission granted. <br />With reference to property located at 2702 Elwood Avenue, which is <br />part of the Defreese Estate, Mr. Liszewski requested permission to <br />advertise for bids for demolition. <br />Permission granted. <br />CCIVâ˘.'LAINT: PROHIBITION OF PARKING ( WESTERN AVENUE ) <br />Councilman Muszynski appeared before the Board to object to the proposed <br />prohibition of parking on Western Avenue and advise the Board that if <br />the ban on parking is adopted, he will submit a petition signed by <br />many residents in the effected area who .are strenuously objecting <br />to this proposed plan. <br />After hearing Councilman Muszynski, the Board advised him that the <br />matter will be continued until Lloyd S. Taylor, City Engineer, who <br />is presently out of the City, has returned since his department is <br />more thoroughly familiar with,the details of the proposed plan. <br />1 <br />1 <br />
