[10 2 <br />The bids were both valid bids. <br />Bids taken under advisement for one week. <br />SUB -STANDARD DIVISION• HEARINGS <br />With reference to property owned by Mr. Joseph Cherbo, located at 802 <br />N. Sherman Avenue, Mr. Liszewski requested permission to advertise <br />for bids for demolition of this sub -standard structure. <br />Permission granted. <br />Comes now Mr. E. Ross, 114,E. Corby Street, and advises the Board that <br />a vacant lot across the street from his property is a hazard due to <br />the fact that the basement excavation is open and the condition is <br />ccsusing the washing out of the alley way and is undermining the side- <br />walk. He also ad -used the Board that the owner, Mr. Wallace Mitchell, <br />has been notified of this condition on numerous occasions but has so <br />far refused to correct the situation. <br />After hearing Mr. Ross,Board requested Mr. Liszewski to obtain photographs <br />of the premises for examination. <br />REQUEST: ERECTION OF PERPETUAL GAS LIGHT ( G. FERN <br />Mr. George Fern, 12 26-- S. Main Street, owner of the Gaslight Club, appeared <br />before the Bca rd with a request to erect a pole at the curb line of <br />126 S. Main Street upon which will be placed perpetual gas lights <br />to publicize his Club which is in the rear of Business Systems. <br />A representative of the Northern Indiana Public Service Company also <br />appeared before the Board to explain the operation of this gas light. <br />It was learned that the flame burns constantly and, should the pole <br />be struck by a vehicle and knocked down there was no automatic shut-off <br />valve to extinguish the flame. <br />The Fire Chief expressed his disapproval of such an installation from <br />a safety angle. <br />The Board requested that PJir. Fern submit a drawing of the proposed <br />installation and also the consent of Business Systems to place such <br />a light at the curb line at the site of Busiress.Systems on the public <br />sidewalk. <br />The request was taken under advisement pending receipt of the above <br />documents and further investigation and study. <br />PETITION: STREET LIGHTS ( HARMUN BUILDERS,, INC. - HIGHLAND ESTATES,, <br />3RD ADDITION ) <br />A Petition from Hartman Builders, Inc. for street lights in Highland <br />Estates, 3rd Addition, was submitted to the Board by Mr. William H. <br />Hartman, Secy. Treasurer, and referred to the Electrical Department <br />for investigation and recommendation. <br />Plans for such installations were also filedVri.th the Board. <br />SPECIAL POLICE CaUISSION ( F _,_KERN ) <br />A Special Police Commission for Ferrell Kern, employed by Feferman <br />Motors was approved pending receipt of Bond. <br />SPECIAL POLICE BOND ( RIPPEY <br />A Special Police Bond for Stephen Rippey was approved and ordered placed <br />on file. Special Police Commission previously approved. <br />
