May 26, 1965 <br />A special meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Wednesday, <br />May 26, 1965 at 3:15 P.M. Messrs. James A. Bickel and Lloyd S. Taylor <br />were present. <br />The following business was transacted: <br />RESOLUTION OF BOARD OF -PUBLIC UORKS & SAFETY OF M CITY OF SOUTH <br />BEND, INDIANA <br />WHEREAS, State Route #23 has been rerouted in the City of South Bend, and <br />WHEREAS, Average Daily Traffic volume has increased and will continue <br />to increase, and <br />WHEREAS, Certain types of accidents as well as congestion will result <br />unless capacity is increased <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Public Works & Safety <br />that parking be prohibited on S.R. #23 at the following locations: <br />1. Both sides of South Bend Avenue (SR 23) from Eddy Street <br />to Edison Road. <br />2. The west side of the 100 block South Eddy (SR 23) from a <br />point 130 feet north of Jefferson to the first alley <br />north. <br />3. North side of East Sample (SR 23) from Carroll to Fellows. <br />4. South side of East Sample (SR 23) from the west property <br />line of 310"�to Fellows Street. <br />5. The north side of the 300 to 700 block West Sample (SR 23) <br />from Lafayette to Chapin. <br />6. The northwesterly side of Prairie (SR 23) from Oliver to <br />Grant Streets. <br />7. BICKEL <br />Date: May 24, 1965 <br />The above Resolution was approved following complete studies of the area <br />by Clem Hazinski, Traffic Director and was executed by the Board on the <br />24th day of May, 1965. The Clerk of the Board was directed to send a <br />copy of said Resolution to Fred Beroske, LaPorte District Engineer, <br />State Highway Commission. <br />APPROVAL: INDIANA A MICHIGAN ELECTRIC CWPANY ( TWYCKENHAM DRIVE BR„IDGE <br />LIGHTING <br />The Board approved a proposal of Indiana & Michigan Electric Company for <br />the installation of 4 - 21,000 lumen mercury vapor luminaires on 301 <br />steel poles with underground construction on the Twyckenham Drive bridge <br />and remove the existing 7 - 2,500 lumen incandescent fixtures which <br />are presently installed on low concrete posts. It is I & M's under <br />standing that the remaining--7-posts which have no fixtures will also <br />be removed. <br />
