May 24, 1965 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works & Safety was held on <br />Monday; May 24, 1965 at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes <br />of the last regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were <br />approved and ordered paid to the various suppliers. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT: HOUSE MOVE ( MITSCHELEN <br />Comes now Lewis Mitschelen, owner and mover of two houses from South <br />Main Street and West Indiana Avenue to Gertrude Street, at the request <br />of the Board to answer questions concerning his plans for the prospective <br />moving of said houses. <br />Mr. M-itschelen advised the Board that the house which is presently a <br />duplex will be changed to a one unit home. One house will be completely <br />resided and the other will have siding repaired. Mr. Mitschelen also <br />submitted snapshots of other homes in the area which he contended are <br />two story homes instead of one and one-half story homes, and that his <br />houses will not detract from the neighborhood nor look out of place in <br />this area. <br />Upon questions from the Board, Mr. Mitschelen advised that he had not as <br />yet purchased the lots, pending approval of the Board to move the houses <br />to the new locations on Gertrude Street. <br />Mr. Fred Dittman of Gertrude Street appeared before the Board and submitted <br />a petition of residents of Gertrude Street, protesting the proposed house <br />moves on the grounds that the old homes to be moved will detract from <br />the neighborhood which is made up of newer homes and mostly one story <br />homes or one and one-half story homes. <br />After hearing all who wished to be heard, the Board advised those <br />interested parties present that they would recess the Board meeting and <br />personally inspect the area on Gertrude Street where the houses will <br />be moved, if said move is approved by the Board. A decision will be <br />made later in the day. <br />BUILDING DEPARnENT: SUB -STANDARD DIVISION ( HEARINGS ) <br />Comes now Richard Liszewski, Sub -Standard Division Supervisor, with <br />reference to property located at 120 E. Elder Street. Mr. Liszewski <br />advisd the Board that this sub -standard property had recently been sold <br />on land contract to Virgil and Helen Turner now the new owners, and <br />requested 30 days extension. <br />Permission granted. <br />Property located at 128 E. Paris Street, owned by Josephine Schafer is <br />sub -standard. Mrs. Schafer was given list of repairs on March 9 to be <br />completed by May 10, 1965. Inspection shows that nothing has been done. <br />Mrs. Schafer appeared before the Board and explained that she was making <br />an attempt, with the aid of her son, to repair the house. <br />After hearing all who wished to be heard, the Board granted a 30 day <br />extension. At the expiration of this extension an inspection will be <br />made to learn what progress has been made on repairs. <br />A progress report on property owned byt:,Allen and Almeda King had been <br />gub=standard. Owners had been given notice to repair property but <br />nothing has been done. Subject property located at 211 E. Paris Street. <br />Mrs. King appeared before the Board and reported that the contractor <br />had been ill but was now able to do the work. <br />A 30 day continuance was givens. King who was directed to clean up <br />the debris on the premises and do the necessary electrical wiring to <br />eliminate this fire hazard <br />Cleveland and Mary Brown, owners of property located at 314 E.
