364-A <br />Special Meeting - January 12, 1970. <br />A special meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 3:00 <br />P.M., on January 12, 1970, with all members present. Lloyd S. Taylor, <br />President of the Board,presided. <br />Also present at the meeting were Fire Chief Joseph L. Zurat, Detective <br />Sergeant William E. Floring and Deputy City Attorney Robert J. DuComb, Jr. <br />The purpose of the meeting was to consider charges filed by Fire Chief <br />Joseph L. Zurat against Fireman Stephen William Danielowicz, III, for <br />violation of Article IX, Sections 3 and 29 of the General Rules and Regu- <br />lations of the South Bend Fire Department, on December 23, 1969. <br />Fireman Stephen William Danielowicz was called, but came not; nor did <br />counsel appear in his behalf. <br />Detective Sergeant William E. Floring of the South Bend Police Department <br />testified he attempted to serve notice of the charges upon Mr. Danielowicz <br />at 2019 Bergan Street, the home of his mother and his last known address; <br />that he was informed by the mother she had not seen nor heard from her son <br />since before Thanksgiving and did not know his present whereabouts; and <br />that further attempts to locate Mr. Danielowicz had been unsuccessful. <br />Fire Chief Zurat testified that Fireman Stephen William Danielowicz failed <br />to appear for duty at 7:00 A.M., on December 23, 1969 upon the completion <br />of a 60 day suspension commencing October 24, 1969, as ordered by this <br />Board on November 3, 1969, for violation of Article IX, Sections 3, 4 and <br />5 of the General Rules and Regulations of the South Bend Fire Department; <br />that Mr. Danielowicz has never contacted the Department; that the Depart- <br />ment has been unable to locate him, and his present whereabouts are unknown. <br />At the conclusion of the testimony, it was moved, seconded and carr`.ied <br />that Stephen William Danielowicz, III, be dismissed from the South Bend <br />Fire Department effective December 24, 1969. <br />There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting ad- <br />journed at 3:50 P.M. <br />--. _d ffl�01 <br />11 <br />
