RWI <br />2/22/71 <br />REQUEST TO VACATE COLUMBIA COURT TO VEHICULAR TRAFFIC <br />The Department of Redevelopment having proposed�iwionn the next three <br />years Columbia Court, between Colfax Avenue andxNalm wireet, from Michigan <br />Street to Main Street, will be made a part of the Michigan Street pedestrian <br />mall and since said Columbia Court, in its present condition, is not <br />adequate for either pedestrian or vehicular traffic, the Engineering Depart- <br />ment submits to the Board a request that said Columbia Court be vacated <br />to vehicular traffic so that a pedestrian walkway may be constructed. <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the request was referred <br />to the Legal Department for study and recommendation. <br />PETITION TO VACATE PORTIONS OF ST. JOSEPH STREET WESTERN AVENUE; CARROLL <br />STREET, WAYNE AND SPENCER STREETS AND THREE ALLEYS 7NORTH OF POST OFFICE SITE) <br />The Department of Redevelopment, 1200 County City Building, South Bend, <br />Indiana, files with the Board its petition to vacate: <br />St. Joseph Street, from east Western Avenue to East Wayne Street; <br />E. Western Avenue, from St. Joseph Street to Columbia Street; <br />Carroll Street, from,E. Western Avenue to Lincolnway East; <br />E. Wayne Street, from St. Joseph Street to Carroll Street; <br />Spencer Street, from S. Michigan Street to St. Joseph Street; <br />Alleys bounded by E. Wayne, Carroll, E. Western and St. Joseph Street; <br />Alley known as Alexis Court; and the East-West Alley north of <br />Wayne Street, between Carroll Street and Lincolnway East. <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the petition was referred <br />to the Engineering Department and to Area Plan Commission, simultaneously, <br />for study and recommendation to the Board. <br />COMMUNICATION FROM LOCAL UNION NO. 364 <br />A letter dated February 15, 1971,from the Chauffeurs, Teamsters and Helpers <br />Union No. 364, Roland A. Wardlow, President, 2405 E. Edison Road, South Bend, <br />Indiana, giving notice that it desires to"negotiate certain changes and <br />modifications" in fts agreement concerning the Sanitation, Street, Municipal <br />Services, Traffic and Cemetery Departments, was filed with the Board and, <br />upon motion made, seconded and carried, referred to the Legal Department and <br />the Personnel Director for appropriate action. <br />REQUEST TO CONDUCT "TAG DAY" SALES 3/6/71 <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the request of <br />Thomas L. Parnell, District Director, Muscular Dystrophy Association, 119 W. <br />Mishawaka Avenue, Mishawaka, Indiana, to conduct "tag day" sales of shamrocks <br />in the downtown area on March 6, 1971. <br />STREET LIGHT PETITION - KENTON D. MOON - WHITEHALL DRIVE <br />A petition for a street light on -Whitehall Drive was filed with the Board <br />by Kenton D. Moon,c1l 17 Whitehall Drive, South Bend, Indiana and 20 others, <br />and, upon motion made, seconded and carried, referred to the Traffic Engineer- <br />ing Department for study and recommendation to the Board. <br />STREET LIGHTING APPROVED <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved <br />street lighting as recommended by the Traffic Engineering Department as <br />follows: <br />Southmore Heights and the area surrounding Southmore Heights, bounded by <br />Farneman, Miami, Chippewa and Michigan Streets: <br />Install - 58 7,0001.
