e'7 Special Meeting - January 8, 1971 A special meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 11:40 A.M., on January 8, 1971, with all members present. PINK POODLE BAR INCIDENT 10/20/70 INVOLVING POLICE OFFICERS Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the.following resolution was adopted: "RESOLUTION NO. 1-8-71 "WHEREAS, on October 20, 1970, an incident occurred in the Pink Poodle Bar on S. Michigan Street in South Bend, involving eight off -duty police officer; and "WHEREAS, in the following four days the Board of Public Works and Safety made an extensive investigation into said occurrence and the circumstances surrounding same; and "WHEREAS, as a result of said investigation, the Board reached the finding and decision that the eight off -duty r-4 officers involved had been guilty of violation of Department rules, of conduct unbecoming police officers and of conduct injurious to the public peace and welfare; and "WHEREAS, the Board did then assess a penalty against said eight officers for said misconduct of five days' suspension from duty without pay; and "WHEREAS, none of said officers protested said penalty to the Board or requested a hearing on said penalty; and "WHEREAS, through oversight no record was made of any of these proceedings; "NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY of the City of South Bend "I. That the penalty of five days' suspension without pay assessed against officers R. Riddle, L. Vergon, R. Lanch- sweerdt, S. Young, P. Krempetz, B. Wells, L. Bennett and R. Karch be, and the same hereby is, made a matter of record in the minutes of the Board of Public Works and Safety. "2. That said officers be given notice of this action and given an opportunity to request a hearing before the Board on the matter if any so desire. 1'3. That if requested by any of said officers, a hearing be scheduled before the Board on said matters. "Adopted this 8th day of January, 1971. A copy of a report addressed to the Mayor of South Bend under date of December 21, 1970, from the Human Relations Commission in reference to the incident at the Pink Poodle Bar involving eight police officers on October 20, 1970, was ordered filed.
