e'7 <br />Special Meeting - January 8, 1971 <br />A special meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 11:40 <br />A.M., on January 8, 1971, with all members present. <br />PINK POODLE BAR INCIDENT 10/20/70 INVOLVING POLICE OFFICERS <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the.following resolution <br />was adopted: <br />"RESOLUTION NO. 1-8-71 <br />"WHEREAS, on October 20, 1970, an incident occurred in the <br />Pink Poodle Bar on S. Michigan Street in South Bend, involving <br />eight off -duty police officer; and <br />"WHEREAS, in the following four days the Board of Public <br />Works and Safety made an extensive investigation into said occurrence <br />and the circumstances surrounding same; and <br />"WHEREAS, as a result of said investigation, the Board <br />reached the finding and decision that the eight off -duty <br />r-4 officers involved had been guilty of violation of Department <br />rules, of conduct unbecoming police officers and of conduct <br />injurious to the public peace and welfare; and <br />"WHEREAS, the Board did then assess a penalty against <br />said eight officers for said misconduct of five days' suspension <br />from duty without pay; and <br />"WHEREAS, none of said officers protested said penalty <br />to the Board or requested a hearing on said penalty; and <br />"WHEREAS, through oversight no record was made of any <br />of these proceedings; <br />"NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF PUBLIC <br />WORKS AND SAFETY of the City of South Bend <br />"I. That the penalty of five days' suspension without <br />pay assessed against officers R. Riddle, L. Vergon, R. Lanch- <br />sweerdt, S. Young, P. Krempetz, B. Wells, L. Bennett and R. <br />Karch be, and the same hereby is, made a matter of record in <br />the minutes of the Board of Public Works and Safety. <br />"2. That said officers be given notice of this action <br />and given an opportunity to request a hearing before the Board <br />on the matter if any so desire. <br />1'3.
