'1♦ <br />December 7, 1970. <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 9:30 <br />A.M., on December 7, 1970, with all members present. <br />BIDS OPENED FOR FIRE ENGINE <br />This being the date set for receiving bids for a fire engine for the Fire De- <br />partment, the Clerk tendered proofs of publication in the South Bend Tribune <br />and Tri County News on November 6 and November 13, 1970, which were read and <br />found to be sufficient. <br />The only bid received was from Midwest Fire and Safety Equipment Company, <br />Inc., 1605 Prospect Street, Indianapolis, Indiana., The bid was accompanied by <br />a non collusion affidavit and bid bond in the amount of 10% of the bid. The <br />bid was as follows: <br />1. 1 set of Ward LaFrance Custom P-80-1500 G.P.M. <br />Pumper and equipment as specified (less optional <br />equipment)-----------------------------------------$42,880.00 <br />2. 1 set of Ward LaFrance Custom P-80 1500 G.P.M. <br />Pumper and SQURT Water Tower and equipment as <br />specified (less optional equipment) --------------- $63,860.00 <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the bid was referred to <br />the Fire Department for study and recommendation. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT - APPLICATIONS <br />The following applications for appointment to the South Bend Police Depart- <br />ment were filed with the Board and referred to the Personnel Director for <br />further processing: <br />Richard Joseph DeNeve 011ie William Ross <br />Carl Frederick Heiser Kay Widup <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARDS DIVISION <br />J. W. Adamson, Sub -Standards Director, appeared before the Board and the follow- <br />ing matters were taken up: <br />Mrs. Lottie King, 1613 S. Lees' Street, South Bend, Indiana, appeared before <br />the Board in response to a notice that her properties at 712, 714 and 715 <br />S. Marietta Street and at 1613 S. Leer Street have been posted as unfit for <br />human habitation. Mrs. King stated that she does not want to have the properties <br />demolished and that she wishes to make her residence at 714 S. Marietta Street. <br />The Sub -Standards Director was requested to give Mrs. King a list of necessary <br />repairs, and Mrs King was directed to keep the properties closed. <br />2410-2412 W. Ford Street. Mr. Arnett, owner, appeared before the Board and re- <br />ported the property has been secured and the outside cleaned up. Thereupon it <br />was moved that the order heretofore entered on October 26, 1970, for demolition <br />of the structure be rescinded and that the matter pertaining to said structure <br />be continued indefinitely but kept under surveillance of the Sub -Standards <br />Department. <br />1014 S. Fellows Street. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the matter <br />of 1014 S. Fellows Street was continued one week at the request of the Sub - <br />Standards Director. <br />1207 King Street. The Clerk tendered a letter from Chester Rose stating <br />he would be unable to appear before the Board as requested, and that he is <br />trying to sell the property. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the mat- <br />ter pertaining to 1207 King Street was continued two weeks to permit the owner <br />time in which to close up the building. <br />1618 W. Dunham and 1620 W. Dunham. Mr. Adamson reported Clem Wrzesien <br />appeared as requested but was unable to stay until his matter was reached. <br />Mr. Adamson stated both buildings have been posted as unfit for human <br />habitation and are both open. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the <br />matter of the two properties was continued two weeks to permit the owner <br />to close up the buildings. <br />C <br />1 <br />
