9/28/70 <br />September 28, 1970r <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at <br />9:30 A.M., with all members present. The minutes for the previous meet- <br />ing were reviewed and approved, and the order of business began. <br />BIDS FOR VEHICLES FOR THE ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT <br />This being the date set for receiving bids for Vehicles for the Engineer- <br />ing Department as follows: <br />1 - Four door sedan <br />1 - Four door station wagon <br />the clerk tendered proofs of publication in the South Bend Tribune and <br />the Tri-County News on September 18 and September 25, 1970, which were <br />read and found to be proper. Bids were received from the following <br />companies: <br />r-i <br />Romy Hammes, Inc. 224 South Olive Street, South Bend, Ind. <br />Harold Medow, Inc. 224 N. Lafayette, South Bend, Indiana <br />Freeman -Spicer, Inc. 520 S. Lafayette, South Bend, Indiana <br />C� <br />Bids were opened. Non -collusion affidavits were found to be proper. <br />Bids bonds were found to be sufficient. A certified check in the amount <br />of $490.00 accompanying the bid of Freeman -Spicer, Inc. was found to <br />be sufficient. <br />(BIDS TABULATED ON PAGE OF THESE MINUTES) <br />There being no further bids, the motion was made, seconded and carried <br />` <br />to refer the bids to the Engineering Department for study and recommend- <br />ation. <br />FIRE,DEPARTMENT <br />Applications <br />The following application for appointment to the South Bend Fire Depart- <br />ment was filed and referred to the personnel director for further pro- <br />cessing: <br />Edward Michael Jankowski <br />t <br />Financial Transfer of Funds <br />Y Fire Chief Joseph L. Zurat submitted to the Board a request for the <br />transfer of funds in the amount of $900.00 from Q-11, Salaries, to Q-221, <br />Electrical Current, to cover the estimated need to cover the electrical <br />service for the months of September,October, and November; to transfer <br />$8000,00 from Q-11, Salaries, to Q-726, Other Equpiment, for the purpose <br />of purchasing equipment to update some of the engine companies with (a) <br />Wye connections, (b) soft steamer hose, (c) short sections of either <br />2'zz or 31 hose, and (d) 2'-z' hose; to transfer $4375.00 from Q-11, Salaries, <br />to Q-724, Radio Equipment, for the purpose of purchasing five additional <br />two-way radios, chargers, batteries and carrying cases, due to the <br />large increase in high-rise buildings in this City, and for the purpose <br />of keeping abreast of potential trouble areas. <br />Upon motions made, seconded and carried, these three requests were ap- <br />proved by the members of the Board, and referred to the City Department <br />of Law for further processing. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />Applications <br />The following applications for appointment to the South Bend Police De- <br />partment were filed and referred to the personnel director for further <br />processing: <br />
