9/28/70 September 28, 1970r A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 9:30 A.M., with all members present. The minutes for the previous meet- ing were reviewed and approved, and the order of business began. BIDS FOR VEHICLES FOR THE ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT This being the date set for receiving bids for Vehicles for the Engineer- ing Department as follows: 1 - Four door sedan 1 - Four door station wagon the clerk tendered proofs of publication in the South Bend Tribune and the Tri-County News on September 18 and September 25, 1970, which were read and found to be proper. Bids were received from the following companies: r-i Romy Hammes, Inc. 224 South Olive Street, South Bend, Ind. Harold Medow, Inc. 224 N. Lafayette, South Bend, Indiana Freeman -Spicer, Inc. 520 S. Lafayette, South Bend, Indiana C� Bids were opened. Non -collusion affidavits were found to be proper. Bids bonds were found to be sufficient. A certified check in the amount of $490.00 accompanying the bid of Freeman -Spicer, Inc. was found to be sufficient. (BIDS TABULATED ON PAGE OF THESE MINUTES) There being no further bids, the motion was made, seconded and carried ` to refer the bids to the Engineering Department for study and recommend- ation. FIRE,DEPARTMENT Applications The following application for appointment to the South Bend Fire Depart- ment was filed and referred to the personnel director for further pro- cessing: Edward Michael Jankowski t Financial Transfer of Funds Y Fire Chief Joseph L. Zurat submitted to the Board a request for the transfer of funds in the amount of $900.00 from Q-11, Salaries, to Q-221, Electrical Current, to cover the estimated need to cover the electrical service for the months of September,October, and November; to transfer $8000,00 from Q-11, Salaries, to Q-726, Other Equpiment, for the purpose of purchasing equipment to update some of the engine companies with (a) Wye connections, (b) soft steamer hose, (c) short sections of either 2'zz or 31 hose, and (d) 2'-z' hose; to transfer $4375.00 from Q-11, Salaries, to Q-724, Radio Equipment, for the purpose of purchasing five additional two-way radios, chargers, batteries and carrying cases, due to the large increase in high-rise buildings in this City, and for the purpose of keeping abreast of potential trouble areas. Upon motions made, seconded and carried, these three requests were ap- proved by the members of the Board, and referred to the City Department of Law for further processing.
