September 21, 1970 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 9:30 <br />A.M., with S. J. Crumpacker, City Attorney, and James A.,Bickel, City <br />Controller, present. Mr. Crumpacker acted as chairmen of the meeting. <br />The minutes of the previous meeting were reviewed and approved. <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT - APPLICATIONS <br />The following applications for appointment to the South Bend Fire Department <br />were filed and referred to the Personnel Director for further processing: <br />John Robert Dauss <br />Leslie Frank Nemeth <br />Thomas Stephen Stachowiak <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT - APPLICATIONS <br />The following applications for appointment to the South Bend Police Depart- <br />ment were filed and referred to the Pi3r.sonnel Director for further processing: <br />e.-q David Allen Chmielewski <br />JO Donald Franklin Miller <br />Martin Louis Jensen, Jr. <br />MUNICIPAL PARKING GARAGES - PROGRESS REPORT <br />J. J. McNeile, Parking Manager, presented a progress report for the municipal <br />parking garages at Jefferson Boulevard and St. Joseph Street and at Main and <br />Colfax Streets, which was read and ordered filed. <br />Mr. McNeile reports the garage at Jefferson and St. Joseph Street,will be <br />open for business on or about October 5, 1970, and the garage at Main and <br />Colfax will open for business early in November, 1970; that parking rates <br />have been established at $20.00 per month, at 35� for the first hour and <br />15� for each additional,hour up to 95� per day, and that a validation <br />program of 25� by downtown merchants,has been established. Mr. McNeile is <br />to report further on week end parking. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARDS DIVISION <br />J. W. Adamson, Sub -Standards Director, appeared before the Board and the <br />following matters were taken up: <br />1505 Miami Street. Neither Gordon L. nor Ada M. Roseberry appeared as re- <br />quested. Mr. Adamson reports the Roseberrys have indicated by letter they <br />are agreeable to the demolition of the building. Upon motion made, seconded <br />and carried, the Sub -Standards Director was authorized to seek bids for the <br />demolition of the front structure at 1505 Miami Street. <br />1210 South Bend Avenue. Neither Lloyd nor Mabel R. Rough appeared as requested. <br />Mr. Adamson reports mail addressed to them has been returned by the Post <br />Office. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the matter was continued two <br />weeks for further investigation by the Sub -Standards Director. <br />925 W. Washington Street. Attorney William 0. Jackson appeared on behalf of <br />Theresa Grear and stated they are agreeable to the demolition of the property. <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Sub -Standards Director was <br />authorized to seek bids for the demolition of the structure at 925 W. Washington <br />Street. <br />1629 S. Franklin Street. Nicholas P. Cholis did not appear as requested. Mr. <br />Adamson reports Mr. Cholis has indicated they are agreeable to the building <br />being demolished. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Sub -Standards <br />Director was authorized to seek bids for the demolition of the structure at <br />1629 S. Franklin Street. <br />505 Kalorama. Mr. Adamson reports certified notice to the owners Sergio and <br />Hass was returned by the Post Office "unclaimed." Upon motion made, seconded <br />and carried, the matter was continued two weeks for further investigation by <br />the Sub -Standards Department. <br />2410-2412 W. Ford Street (on the complaint of A. C. Dillon and others). <br />r, AZIamson reports no response has been received from the owner Gene <br />Arnett, 616 S. 3rd Street, Niles, Michigan to notice addressed to him on <br />September 8, 1970.
