• 0 • July 31, 1972 A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened on Monday, July 31, 1972 at 9:30 A.M. Those present were James V. Barcome, City Controller, and William J. Richardson, City Engineer. Mr. Richardson chaired the meeting. Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. BIDS ON POWER STREET SWEEPER This being the date set for receiving bids for a Power Street Sweeper for the Street Department, and only one bid having been received, it was opened and read as follows: Tennant Company, 1 Tennant 92 Power Sweeper 701 North Lilac Drive as per specifications Minneapolis, Minnesota 55440 $10,066.50 Non -Collusion affidavit was found to be in order, and a certified check in the amount of $1,107.31 accompanied bid. Proofs of pub- lication of notice were tendered by the Clerk and found to be sufficient. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the bid was referred to the Street Commissioner for study and report. FIRE DEPARTMENT Chief Bland appeared before the Board and matters pertaining to.his department were discussed. RETIREMENT OF FIREFIGHTER OSCAR TETZLAFFY The Chief presented the following letter: July 29, 1972 Board of Public Works and Safety 13th Floor, County City Building South Bend, Indiana Re: Firefighter Oscar Tetzlaff Honorable Board Members: Attached hereto please find the Application and Declaration for retirement of the above named firefighter. He wishes to make his retirement effective August 1, 1972. Firefighter Tetzlaff has completed twenty-four (24) years of_ service on the South Bend Fire Department. He was appointed on Aug- ust 1, 1948, and his birth date is June 28, 1913. 1 recommend that his retirement be granted, which I trust will meet with your approval. Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the recommendation of the Chief was accepted and the Retirement of Firefighter Oscar Tetzlaff was approved as of August 1, 1972. The Clerk was instructed to Write to Oscar Tetzlaff expressing regret and thanking him for his years of service to the city.
