335 <br />June 12, 1972 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety conven6d at <br />9:30 A.M. on Monday, June 12, 1972. Present were Mr. Charles A. Sweeney, <br />Jr., City Attorney and William J. Richardson, City Engineer. Minutes <br />of the last meeting were reviewed and approved. <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />Chief Bland was present and matters pertaining to his department were <br />discussed. <br />The following letter was presented: - <br />June 9, 1972 <br />Board of Public Works and Safety <br />l3th Floor, County City Building <br />South Bend, Indiana 46601 <br />Re: IFA Convention <br />Irlm Honorable Board Members: <br />e-4 <br />in Attached hereto please find correspondence directed to me from Lt. William <br />T. Schmidt, Secretary of the I.F.A., requesting that Washington Street, <br />U directly in front of the Albert Pick Motor Inn, be used for a water ball <br />contest scheduled for 8:00 A.M. on Saturday, July 29, 1972. Also, it has <br />been requested that an Engine Company be used to supply the water. <br />The entire event will last approximately two (2) hours. <br />Naturally, the South Bend Police Department will be notified of arrangements <br />upon your approval. <br />Your consideration will be appreciated. <br />Respectfully submitted, <br />SOUTH BEND FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />s/ Jack R. Bland, Fire Chief <br />JRB/ss <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board referred to matter to <br />the Engineering Department, Bureau of Traffic for study and report. <br />Chief Bland requested permission for Lt. William T. Schmidt to attend <br />the 38th annual Validation Conference of the International Fire Service <br />Training Association, to be held on July 10, through 14, 1972 at Oaklahoma <br />State University, Stillwater, Oklahoma. <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the request. <br />BIKE ROUTE ALTERED <br />Mr. Paul Boehm, Director of Public Recreation, appeared before the Board <br />with a modified plan for the Bike Route as follows: <br />Route will begin and end at Keller Park, Riverside Drive, just` <br />East of Sherman Avenue; from Keller Route will go North on Riverside, <br />loop in and out of Pinhook Park and proceed North on Riverside <br />to Cleveland Road; turning East on Cleveland using sidewalk on <br />North side of road to Kenilworth; North on Kenilworth to Brook - <br />trail Drive and continue North to Darden Road; Turn left on <br />Darden and proceed west across Darden Bridge to Glenview Drive; <br />At Glenview turn South to Viking Drive; turn left at Viking <br />Drive and proceed East back to Riverside Drive; turn right on <br />Riverside and go south back to Keller Park. <br />
