<br />AA.Aegular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened.at 9:30
<br />on October 4, 1971, with all members present. The minutes of the
<br />meetings September 20 and September 23, 1971, were reviewed and approved.
<br />POLICE DEPARTMENT - MILITARY DUTY CADET THOMAS E. KOEHLER
<br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board granted a leave
<br />of absence to Cadet Thomas E. Koehler for military duty at Fort Dix, New Jersey
<br />and at Ft. Lee, Virginia, for a period of five to six months, commencing
<br />October 15, 1971.
<br />POLICE DEPARTMENT - APPLICATION FOR APPOINTMENT AS SPECIAL POLICE OFFICER
<br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the
<br />appointment of Robert Kingsafer as a special police officer for the Elks Club.
<br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARDS DIVISION
<br />Richard Liszewski, Sub -Standards Director, appeared before the Board and the
<br />following matters were taken up:
<br />220 E. Paris Street. Mr. Liszewski reported the house open and stated he has
<br />heard nothing further from the owner. Upon motion made, seconded and
<br />unanimously carried, the Sub -Standards Director was authorized to seek bids
<br />for demolition of the structure at 220 E. Paris Street.
<br />2601 Lawton Street. Mr. Liszewski reported Mr. Binion is recently deceased and
<br />that the mortgage holder, National Bank and Trust Company, is agreeable to
<br />the demolition of the property. Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously
<br />carried, the Sub -Standards Director was authorized to seek bids for demolition
<br />of the structure at 601 Lawton Street.
<br />315 Parkovash. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the matter of 315 Parko-
<br />vash Street was continued two weeks.
<br />613 W. LaSalle Street. Mr. Liszewski reported the attorney for the estate
<br />owner of this property hopes to sell the property. Upon motion made, seconded
<br />and carried, the matter was continued two weeks.
<br />2001 S. Brookfield. Mr. Liszewski reported this house open and deteriorating
<br />and that the owner has given permission for its demolition. Upon motion made,
<br />seconded and unanimously carried, the Sub -Standards Director was authorized to
<br />seek bids for demolition of the structure at 2001 S. Brookfield.
<br />WEIGHTS AND MEASURES DEPARTMENT - REQUEST TO ATTEND INSPECTORS' MEETING
<br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, Weights and Measures
<br />Inspector 0. A. Scott was authorized to attend the Indiana Association of
<br />Inspectors of Weights and Measures meeting in Indianapolis, Indiana, October
<br />7 and 81971.
<br />Weights and Measures monthly report for September, 1971, by Inspector Bert
<br />Cichowicz was reviewed and ordered filed.
<br />CONTRACT AWARDED - IMPROVEMENT RESOLUTION NO. 3343 1971 - E. FARNEMAN
<br />STREET SEWER
<br />Having duly considered all bids received, the Board awards contract for the
<br />improvement of E. Farneman Street, from approximately 200 feet east of
<br />Fellows Street east to the dead end by constructing a local sewer, to
<br />Howell Construction Company, Inc., on its bid September 20, 1971, of
<br />$6,618.00; and directs the Howell Construction Company, Inc., to proceed
<br />with such improvement.
<br />A.C.T.I.O.N., INC. - IN KIND RENT VOUCHERS
<br />In -kind rent vouchers from A.C.T.I.O.N., Inc., for the month of October, 19719
<br />for Fire Stations #5, #7 and #8 were ordered filed.
